    Home Audio Recording

So this is kind of a big long shot, but lately I've been getting back into song writing and recording. I was wondering if there were any amateur/pro sound engineer types on /bg/ who could offer any generic tips/tricks. Anything I've done so far sounds like it was recorded by some guy with no training in an apartment with one microphone (because it was obviously), and I'm looking for help making it sound a bit more "polished."

When I was in a band we recorded with a guy who used protools(I think) and would either use a PA port on the amp to hook it directly to the computer or have mics set up that ran to the computer. He used 2~3 per 4x12 cab. I really can't comment on the setup he used specifically or any external adapters he had to run the mics directly to the computer, but I could probably put you in touch with him via email to ask him questions directly. I could also PM you different things he's done to see if you like his sound.
