RDM DD Can of Worms

Hoookay, so I thought this was prety much a no brainer. It came up in LS chat something in regards to RDM DD and I said something to the effect of 'You wouldn't believe how fast I come down on any RDM DD in my PT.'

At which point our resident PMS queen 67DRG alla-mod (no joke) resident endgame 'specialist' (I'm told this is what she was hired for? They thought she was 75) spouted "Then you're an ignorant twat."

I assumed she was being sarcastic, as I was in shock (and on the brink of LOL) that anyone would react so strongly to a pretty straight-forward statement.

Now. If a RDM can maintain all hastes, enfeebs, status remedies, cures etc (whatever role they were invited for) and after all this their sword swings between casts and they're not detrimenting MP by getting nailed with AoE (seriously when was the last time you saw this achieved) THEN and only then do I allow this to go on in my party.

Otherwise it's time for UM WTF R U DOING, or the ever popular OH HELLLLL NAW.


Turns out she was serious, and I turned on the angry, but that's kinda boring. So. Aside from rdm/nin tanking this or that HNM, am I way off here? RDM DD gtfo imo.

Nope, RDM DD can suck a cock. If they're managing well without resting during fights at all, you're too mage heavy or they need to do more shit.

While I will melee here and there depending on party setup, if I'm pulling and a WHM has Haste taken care of and I'm not having trouble keeping a mob on deck I'll go for it.

That said, I can't remember more than 2 'melee RDMs' ever who actually displayed a knowledge of when it's acceptable and when it's not, and bothered to have a respectable melee set(I'd like to think I do). If they're bringing down the party, stop or gtfo.

One time on my old toon I geared up Taru RDM/NIN DD in lufaise meadows for a LS joke party type thing ... our WHM had to go after like an hour so we invited Hitosi (relic club WHM) to come replace her which to our surprise he did ... but he didnt DD along with me. I was pretty upset.

At levels where the best DD equipment consists almost entirely of Battle Gloves I don't think it matters if a RDM melees. When they're in parties post-48, they've probably got their hands full with other more important stuff. At 51 and later into the 60s I don't know how well they could stick enfeebles without using a Staff which they have no combat skill with. In a pickup party while leveling post-51 you could just boot your melee RDMs and it would usually be the right choice. They'll still probably end up dinging 75 before you though.

edit: the thing that really burned me was she called me uneducated (false on any level due to university, 1100+ lvs of jobs and way too many hours at every possible HNM camp) and took pearl off shortly after

It seems like the correlation between melee RDM is that they usually have shitty gear. Like really shitty gear. So chances of them being able to keep up while meleeing is very low.

lowbie gear is rather limited anyway, some of the more 'required' mage pieces arent available til 40 or so and definitely 51+

Unless they're being invited for the sole purpose of DD, they're wasting their time doing damage. If I get invited as a WHM to heal/haste my party, there's no way I can melee doing all the shit I need to be doing. If I'm meeling, that's taking away from sitting time/getting ballad/etc. that I would otherwise be getting if I was in the back.

I've only run into the meleeing DD RDM myth once before, long time ago at a LAN pt with some friends. We made a pt in the Labyrinth (like I said, LONG time ago), and this RDM couldn't land shit and was meleeing fulltime. That is one of like... 3 times I've ever booted anyone from a pt.

Don't you love when melee RDM = Full AF+/nin (at any level) and they're "wtfleet" if they throw on a SH too?

That said I melee'd 'til lv50 or so on my RDM to keep Dagger/Sword capped, but then again I did it after buffs/enfeebles and stopped soon as weapon re-capped.
Had an actual setup for melee too.

But yeah, melee RDM+Bastard THF makes for good times.

Why would you use terra for tanking? Unless you're getting your ass kicked?

It takes 20% less of your shadows, so you get 7 shadows instead of 6 off 2 casts, duh.

Last time I got invited to a party with a melee Rdm, I left. I was on Rdm and there was a Rdm/Nin thinking he was DD on Sea Puks. His gear wasn't horrible, but I'm not gonna waste my time in a mediocre party when I can be an elitest and party with an ideal setup.
