Wow Azazael... that pretty much shatters my hopes that the check would still be mailed on my direct deposit date (today.) If you haven't seen yours and you're in the first batch... i would assume your check is on schedule with the actual Paper Check Schedule (you being sched. for May 16...) That means it will me a good month and a half out for mine then. Oh well... time to stop counting those chickens.
Balls.
I did mine online (taxact.com) but had mine roll into my checking account. Got mine today. No idea what Santa Barbara bank you guys speak of.
Quite a few places online use the Santa Barbara Bank & Trust as a routing account for the refunds. Essentially (if i understand correctly) the IRS has THEIR account # and the refund goes to them. They, on behalf of a lot of online tax sites, then transfer the money to your actual account. My understanding is that the IRS never really has your actual account # in this case but SBBT's instead, so since that account no longer exists they cannot direct deposit the Stimulus. The process is in place to allow for even faster returns i suppose.
I have also read that this applies in any case when you are getting your deposit 'expedited' or having the fees taken out of your actual refund rather than just letting it take its time and be DIRECTLY direct deposited. Confusing, but yeah, not expecting to see my Stimulus until late June now.
So while filing online or with Turbo Tax doesn't automatically mean you are looking at a paper check... it seems that paying filing fees out of your refund DOES in most cases. With the recent enactment of the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, TurboTax does not ask for deposit information for your economic stimulus payment.
Although the IRS encouraged tax filers to elect to have their rebates deposited directly into their bank accounts, some filers will only be able to receive theirs by mail. They include filers who conducted certain financial transactions, such as paying filing fees from the proceeds of their tax refunds, using third parties, such as SBB&T.
I filed back in March, direct deposit. The IRC site with the calculator was accurate for me. $600 direct deposited into my account on time.
I filed online, but I entered my checking account number and got a straight deposit from the IRS into it for my refund. I'll be crossing my fingers that my rebate gets deposited smoothly next week (damn you, SSN ending in 79).
Strange, maybe taxact.com routes the e-fil direct deposits different, but I got mine today. I've done my through taxact for the past few years now.
Could be Tyche, but did you pay fees directly or have them deducted from your refund? That seems to be a key part of the paper or not mystery.
Why would people pay to have their taxes filed? Shit is free (except state, that costs monies). People actually pay to do their own taxes online? Not trying to be a smartass, but I'm not paying a damn thing when I put fourth the effort of filing on my own.
I was just about to bring this up. My sisters deposit should be going through today but she just read that this matters. If they deducted fees youll have to get a paper check or something.Originally Posted by Graelinn
Got my $600.
some people actually use a service provided by some companies:
SBBTs, HSBC Bank, H&R block and others that provide faster refunds, these ARE NOT FREE services, if you got your money 1-3 days or 5-10 days direct deposit, then you used a 3rd party to provide you with a REFUND ANTICIPATION LOAN... which are RAL or a ERC, which are just basically like a 2-3 days faster refund than the regular IRS deposits.
If you used a free service then you did not have fees deducted or anything, all other that have Santa Barbara Bank and Trust, used a LOAN to get their money faster.
I did taxes for myself, my fiancee, and my sister, all e-filed and direct deposited for free. All 3 came in the 2nd friday following them being filed. So I guess 8-13 days. I've heard of H&R bloclk doing the "refund return in just 3 days" promo. E-filing doesn't take that long...how much did they charge for returns just a couple days faster? Sounds like a ripoff.
I honestly don't remember what the fee was, wife did the taxes this year. In the past it has been like... $5-10 IF THAT... so i never even thought twice about it. This year we filed the day we got our W2s, and had our refund a week later. We have just used OLT for years now, and really this wouldn't even be considered an "issue" just annoying really.
On the other hand, this is essentially money i wasn't expecting anyway so I am not going to complain.
First I put my info into the computer taxcut, just so I had an idea of how much and to see if I could do it, how easy it was or w/e. Jackson hewitt is where I went to get my taxes offially done, they wanted 315 dollars for one w2... I left and finished off my taxes at home thru the computer got my shit Direct D, about 2 weeks later, got my 900 DD today.
The only thing that bugs me is I dont think I got anything for my gf in that stimulus since she was claimed as other, not spouse or child.
Whole bunch of stuff from the IRS came into the post office today. Des Moines area will see it today, everywhere else in central Iowa and surrounding areas (ZIPs starting with 525, 500-502, and 508, minus 50265, 50266, 50021, and 50023) will see it Monday. Probably the same for most states, if you're in a large city (for your state) you'll probably see it today.
Didn't seem like there was enough that everybody was getting a letter, but I'd say a few thousand pieces of mail per ZIP code on average. Round one of paper checks, maybe?
