Never understood the outcry for how many times a guy is shot. IF a cop shoots in a situation like that, it is to kill. What difference does it make if he dies with 1 gunshot wound or 50?

50 shots at close-ish range at people who aren't shooting back kinda gives the impression you really want the person not-alive/are enjoying it a bit too much.

I don't think you realize how fast bullets are fired. Also, 5 cops fired, so 10 bullets per person isn't really that much. With a standard issue pistol you can fire that off in maybe 4-5 seconds. Also, the guys who got shot drove directly at the officers standing in the street (the main point of discussion in the case were if the cops identified themselves because they were in plain clothes) and the officers fired when they felt they were threatened.

I'm sorry but I don't believe that cops fire their guns because they want to, I think the guys in the car were drunk and stupid, and tried to run over the cops. Of course Reverend Al will never say that, because they were black.

I was thinking more along the lines of the assumption that a black man MUST be carrying a gun and is totaly going to use it to shoot as cops. Black man= dangerous= shoot moar. Not anything particularly racist.

The fact that the one of the witnesses with the man had said "go get my gun" at least once earlier in the night and an undercover officer heard it is probably one of the main reasons they were acquitted. The same witness also had a fairly large criminal background. The man who was shot was basically hanging out with the wrong people and that's unfortunate. I don't see any reason to charge the cops if they felt they were in danger. Even though 50 rounds is alot they can be fired very fast, also for people to claim racism doesn't make much sense seeing as how 2/3 of the cops were black themselves.

It's a raw deal for the victim, because the only trained shooters who should be firing ten rounds at anyone is the military and suppressive fire. Not a policeman. They really oughtta be kicked off the force after this as an example to the rest of the force in discipline and control when utilizing deadly force.

Someone else has mentioned this already but you didn't seem to read it so I'll reiterate; cops are trained that if they draw and fire their gun they are to shoot to kill, not shoot to injure. They are trained to not fire once, but to empty the entire clip. They are not allowed to shoot at someone running away or at a car driving away from them. Pretty much the only time they are allowed to fire is if their life is in danger. Most of the time this also means they aren't allowed to fire their gun until the other person does, although this probably varries from state to state.

As for this particular situation, eh, I'll reserve my opinion, but I will say I am usually on the liberal side of these conversations.
