31 stab wounds = crime of passion.
I live near Charlotte, NC and this kind of stuff happens pretty frequently here. A few months ago cops in Charlotte shot (and killed) a young black man IN THE BACK while he was running away with nothing but a house phone in his hand. The cops would later claim that they thought the phone was a gun. They were never charged with anything.
Last year cops got a call about a suspicious vehicle parked at a cell phone tower. When they arrived they saw the vehicle which was clearly marked on the side door as a utility truck from the cell phone company, went in with weapons drawn, and shot the man who was there doing nothing more than his job to support his family. They later claimed the man was armed and that they found his firearm OUTSIDE the building. The problem is that man never exited the building...because he was dead. The cop who killed the utility worker was never charged with anything.
I'm not sure how it works everywhere else, but in Charlotte when the police department is investigated, it is investigated by none other than the Charlotte P.D. What a wonderful world we live in.
I'm sick of people arguing incorrect facts.
Facts:
50 shots fired from 5 different people. Of those only two fired more than a few. The highest two shot totals were 31 shots and 11 shots. Of the five police, two (Gescard Isnora, Michael Oliver)were brought up on manslaughter, reckless endangerment and assault. A third (Marc Cooper) was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment. The other two were not charged at all.
Sean Bell, the guy who died, was only hit 4 times. Guzman, one of the others was hit 19 times but he lived. Benefield, the third guy who was shot was only hit three times, he also lived. Quit saying one cop shot him 31 times, when one cop shot 31 times at three or four people in a car (there may or may not have been a fourth person, if you read about the case you can find out there were conflicting witness and police statements on both sides about there being a fouth person involved). I want to add, that the area I bolded up top is in response to all those who are arguing about how many bullets it takes to kill.
This wasn't a white cops vs. black badguys incident. In case you need a visual to understand this, here are the officers:

Michael Carey, upper left; Detective Paul Headley, upper right; Detective Marc Cooper, lower left; and Detective Michael Oliver (31 shots), lower right. Isnora (first one to open fire) is in the 5th photo.
Quit making the actual shooting a racial incident especially when the first shots fired were fired by one of the non-white officers. Argue all you want about the outcome of the trail, but not the shooting itself.
