    Skin Problem

Feel a bit silly posting this here but oh well. I am 19 now and I have had acne from about 13, I've tried all kinds of products the latest one being Murad acne range and that seemed to do well but my skin was still really red. So I looked up on redness (lol) and found Rosacea and I had exactly the same symptoms, except it says it occurs in women over 30 so I have no idea whats going on with my skin. I am taking Acnamino capsules to control the spots and it seems to be doing well so far, I dont mind the odd few but my face is so red. I don't understand whats causing it I drink nothing but water, and i've tried eating healthy and exercising and that did nothing to it so I thought what's the point? So my question to you is does anyone have redness mainly on the forehead/nose/cheeks/chin? And is there any way to get rid of it? I just want to have clear skin again its a real confidence shatterer

I have some, but it's definitely genetic. I got it from my mom.

I have something similar on my neck and elbows of all places.
After consulting with a couple of dermatologists they both kinda scratched their heads. It may just be genetic. But it never helps to keep getting consults to figure it out.

Dear god don't use Murad. That thing made my skin so red it's not even funny.

If you have acne just go to a dermatologist... if it's mild he'll put you on antibiotics and topicals, if it's worse he'll just give you accutane and you'll be done with the fucking thing either way in 2-3 months.

It does seem to have some genetic implications as my mom still has a breakout here and there, but my dad never had a single one so I got stuck with the bad genes. Either way I don't care, since i'm a male it'll probably stop within a couple of years, for now i'm on a really low dose of antibiotics that has kept my skin clear for months.

Accutane will beat the shit out of acne.

    Re: Skin Problem

I wonder if it'll really help mild acne though... cus like, I have a whitehead here, whitehead there... it's mostly whiteheads, I do have very small cysts once in a while but they pass after 2-3 days. And my nose is like a valley of blackheads, but other than that my face is entirely clean.

My doctor seems to be very much against giving me accutane, but said he would if I really wanted to heh. I figure, "acne" stops at around 22 for males at the latest, so if I take accutane now for 6 months, and then it stays in your body for another year or so, by the time the medicine is out of my body I should already be over acne anyways, so it'll keep me clear for good technically. But he doesn't want to give it to me unless everything else fails (and it did, I went off the antibiotics for 1 week and started breaking out again so he put me on them again.)

I don't mind staying on the small dose antibiotics for as long as I need it, I just don't know how healthy it is (and the fact that it'll eventually wear off is another thing too.)

    Fuck acne.

Acnamino is like Accutane and its keeping my spots under control, maybe I will try taking 2 a day when I have to go back to doctors to pick up another prescription, its just mainly the redness that is the problem

Calamine lotion. You can wear it if you don't get the pink kind, but if you do get that, just put it on overnight. Shit's cheap too, like $4 a bottle.

    I wish.

Instead, it moved from my face to my arms and back.

    Re: Skin Problem

Best way to deal with it is to tan. I've had mild acne since I was like 11 and for the last few years I've been 100% clear just by using a tanning bed. Once every two to three days for a few minutes will do the trick. I've seen it work for countless people that come into my tanning salon, it's actually pretty crazy. I have one guy who comes in only in the summer and at the beginning he has horrible ance, but by the end you would never guess he has it. It's like night and day.

EDIT: Will also help to clear up anything on your back, neck, chest, arms whatever.

I thought the sun was bad for the skin.. so how are the tanning beds any different?

    Re: Skin Problem

I've had it on my arms/back since I was 18 or 19. Almost 23 now. It varies in severity, but it's hardly a big deal to me since it's only on spots that see no sun (and if the sun doesn't touch it, nobody else will). In other words, upper arms, shoulders, and back. My skin is also really dry in those areas, compared to my face which gets decently oily and has almost zero acne year round. I'm fairly sure it isn't hygiene since those are areas I clean pretty regularly. I don't know how much diet influences it; I've never been disciplined enough to change my diet for long enough to observe any effect.

    Dermatologist, seriously.

I went a while ago, first thing he said was "Rosacea" and he gave me some stuff (I'm 18/m)

My face isn't too bad though, but every once in a while something pops up and fucking stays there for a while before going away

Common misconception. The sun is not bad for your skin, too much sun is. Using a tanning bed responsibly (I.E in pretty much any salon) will not only help clear up acne, emphysema, soriosis etc... but it will also replenish your vitamin D. Now going outside in the middle of summer and frying yourself is bad for you, but tanning in a bed helps with this too making you much less likely to burn.

    Re: Skin Problem

I suffer from acne too, being 21 and having acne since age 10ish, having acne going to first year of high school was like ohay hes a 3rd year, oh wait he isnt? screw him!.

went to a dermatologist a few months ago, half way through an accutane treatment (shit really drys my skin out like you wouldnt know what), but it only seems to be having a mild effect on my acne. but its atleast making the outbreaks alot less of a hassle to deal with, having acne when you knock it slightly and it gives you a severe ammount of pain is terrible when your trying to bed some drunk girl on a weekend night.

but you should consult a dermatologist, stuff my GP gave me never worked at all.

Your doctor is against giving you accutane for a very good reason. This is why: http://accutane.poweradvocates.com/colitis.html

Basically accutane is a reserved for the most extreme cases only due to the massive risk of side effects worse than the acne. And trust me, it sucks, I got IBS from using accutane. Shitting blood in the hospital for several days is not fun, and the fact that IBS can actually cause acne is like insult to injury. I mean yeah, it got rid of the acne, but at the price of a lifetime of stomach pains, a shot at colon cancer, and bloody noses and bleeding lips while actually on the medication.

If the redness is some form of eczema, then acne medication may make it worse, since they tend to dry your skin out.

Just go see a dermatologist guy.

    Re: Skin Problem

I can attest to tanning helps acne. Over the summer I was perfectly clear, had a nice tan going, then the fall semester rolled around and within a month, I broke out a lot. I hit a tanning bed for about 2 weeks, maybe 3 times in those two weeks at 5mins and it disappeared.

How about tanning beds and cancer? same/better/worse than being out in the sun?
