Even if she isn't working she could still be contributing to the financial success of your investments merely by your union. Perhaps you wouldn't have chosen those same properties had you not been married, etc.

Goes both ways. Those "investments you would/wouldn't have chosen if you weren't married" could suck/rock, so that shouldn't be an issue, really.

It does go both ways, but the way the law looks at it is that your current situation is largely based on your spouse, regardless of their actual work in your industry/business. That is why divorcees get 50% of assets/finances, because they contribute in intangible ways. (Or so the law believes)

Didn't read whole topic but I remember there is a law in Florida that everything is pretty much split even if one spouse doesn't do shit but sleep all day and eat. So if you live in Florida you would be stupid not to get one.

You're pretty naive if you thinkthat marriage is a walk in a park full of flowers, anything can happen that will end with both of you hating eachother's guts, mind as well have a contingency plan. You always, ALWAYS, think that the one you marry is "the one", it only takes a few years with that person to either realize you were right, or that you made the worse mistake in your life.
