WAR/DNC will never be a viable tank and this post proves it.

And doing a "good" talk show type deal for FFXI is pretty hard- trust me I tried to plan shit out for weekly and I came up with absolute nothing unless you really want to talk about fucking expeditionary forces and jerking off with your fellows, i'd say your best bet is biweekly (I think Rocl Talk might be monthly now due to my schedule changes, but if I had my pick it'd be biweekly)

I think your right. But I dunno I think if you have a set format you could possibly do weekly if you had interesting subjects and all, but yeah bi-weekly would seem more do-able.

I stopped listening to pet food alpha because the episodes were WAY TOO LONG. 2 hour long show each week. WTFBBQ.

If its short and sweet it will have a healthy audience .

Dead air is mostly the natural lag gaps from vent, less us forgetting what we were talking about.

Structure is what makes shit boring. Wafik would have never gone off about muslim ninjas with structure.

Doing a weekly podcast about a game that takes 6 months to change is a bit of a tall order. Even doing rocltalk 2 weeks in a row with no real rules was difficult.

Rocl Talk needs moar Ashira. Also, Sonomaa sounded a lot like a guy.

If somebody makes another FFXI related show I'll give it a listen.

Re: Important Question Concerning FFXI podcast

Really, if you wanted to create an FFXI podcast, particularly for the BG audience who either know everything about the game or think they do, you're going to need to be creative about your segment making.

With FFXI the way it is, at best you're going to have new content from the game every few months. That would be 2-3 podcasts possibly, one going over what's been added and whether or not they're good additions to the game, another about ongoing issues and perhaps a third about how the game has changed in the couple weeks after the most recent update.

One of the Rocl Talks chatted a bit about the sch job, and a weekly segment discussing a specific job, a little history and a round table discussion about its strengths and weaknesses is something I might enjoy. Weekly Vana'diel fan fiction, mail bags with questions/comments or w/e or that type of content can be interesting if it's kept fresh. That'll be the main hurdle, since half the segments I could think up have already been hashed around somewhere on this forum.

I'd listen if it was short like you said. Any gaming radio tends to get too nerdy for my taste after about 30 mins when the memes/lingo start sinking in.

    Keep it under 30min
Put music when you talk (instrumentals are a good idea), cuz hear talking for 30min is boring
Have a script if you've never interviewed someone
    Interview interesting people
Make it informative, but fun at times
Don't say um!!! Seriously, you will um a lot when you're interviewing

I have a weekly radio show, and we podcast our shows. When we interview people, we have this thing called "Rapid Fire". 2 minutes where both hosts throw questions at the guests. Questions relating to the material the guest knows, random questions and other fun stuff.

If you keep it simple, fun and short, it'll be popular. Don't need it to get too nerdy.

Re: Important Question Concerning FFXI podcast

Well I just got done listening to LBR show and I must say those guys have nice production value and they are very talkative but I guess listening to them talk about their EPIC rank 10 accomplishment and Suzzy fight made me chuckle I guess being a launch player so I can see how it must be hard to appeal to the entire FFXI community as some will be like oh wow cool story hansel while others will be like /snore lol. I guess what I would try to avoid is personal achievements or stuff along those lines but more subject matter that would be interesting.

Petfoodalpha is so far so good but I find some of the people talking anoying as hell but yeah I guess this is a harder than it looks. I'm still on the fence about weather or not to pursue this but one thing that all of these shows need to be is shorter and that would cut out 99% of the talk noone cares about.

Thanks for the links and input though so far guys ^^.

Re: Important Question Concerning FFXI podcast

Doing a weekly podcast based around FFXI can be very challenging, especially during those weeks where we don't get squat on POL news. That's why we've started to involve the community a bit with coming up with website articles and topics of discussion that hopefully people enjoy.
The length is another thing thats always been tricky. Some say they're too long, and others say they're too short XD We try to stop at around an hour but if we're talking about a topic and it goes longer, it is what it is.

I'd love to see another FFXI podcast out there, having only 3 is such a low number when you look at podcasts for other MMOs.

I think this is the important part.

Also, a lot of truth has been said here as well. Keeping a weekly (or even monthly) schedule can be hard when you're covering a game that goes long stretches of time without updates. That's why some of the material may seem trivial at times. For example, the LBR Rank 10 thing has been a long running joke for a while. It's not just about the information usually, part of it is the delivery. The show itself is very professional as far as production goes, and Aniero takes quite a bit of pride in the show he produces and releases. Also, with both PFA and LBR, as far as guests go, they can only have on the people that post saying they want to be on.

And if you don't think you can't go on tangents when you have structure, you need to listen to some of the earlier episodes lol.

Limit Break Radio is done extremely professionally. They have some idiots on the show to talk about end-game mechanics, yes, but the audio quality and show editing is excellent.

If your show is like LBR, except with people who actually KNOW what they're talking about, I'd listen to every episode.

One of the big things to consider also is with LBR all of the hosts actually record in a studio that Aniero has set up and then they bring the guest in via skype. The hosts on PFA are from all over so we all use skype along with any guests that we have which does mess with the quality of the show a bit.
One of the frustrating things about recording via skype is that sometimes the connection just plain sucks. You can only clean up the audio so much

Yeah tbh I thats how I figured I would run things is over skype and yes I know how reliable it can be sometimes ><; but I dont think I would do a live show or anything like that, I would have recorded segments and put them together in post and whatnot. I've actually got allot of pm's from people here supportive of the idea interested and want to help. I really didnt think I would get so many responces to this post so thanks guys, lots of ideas flowing here ^^.
