    The 100% combos may have been hard for certain characters, but not for others. Old Sub-Zero, Human Smoke and Kung Lao had easy punishes that set them up for their air-reset infinites. And any halfway decent player at the other characters could repeatably pull a 60-70% combo, which made most of the UMK3 days a match of 'who got jabbed out of the air first' matches.

    Didn't feel so much like a fighting game at that point as an arm-wrestling match.

    I viewed MK2 as the last reasonable game in the series.

    Let's put in an awkward "run" button instead of a double-tap dash or the like. Then, let's add in combos that rack up more than half your health bar with no KI-style combo-breakers.

    MK1 and 2 were phenomenal because they were fun to play during the golden age of arcade fighting games. They didn't have to provide innovation beyond the gore and great sound system because the competition at the time were other arcade games (which sucked) and Street Fighter II (which often had a long ass line behind it).

    By the time UMK3 came out we had Tekken and Virtua Fighter next to it, and Street Fighter II on our home consoles. The arcades also had Neo Geo cabinets and KoF 95/96 provided a more...level playing field. The fact that the run/throw and 60% combos were discovered so quickly in the arcades made me and my friends stick to our consoles and the Neo Geo cabs.

    Ed Boon must be on something good to make a bullshit game like this. Its hard to take this game seriously at all. The trailer looks corny as hell and the fact that they chose DC characters makes this unbelievably stupid to imagine how this will NOT suck ass. Man, this is one of those moments where you can rant off about how consoles ruined the arcades and fighting games have gone to shit.... Well, its true for the most part atleast, SF4? ugh fuck that

    In defence to fighting games of the next gen's... SoulCalIV looks pretty good imo, but overall... yes they've gone to shit.

    I have no objections to DC characters in some kind of video game. 52 if nothing else made me fall in love with the DC universe again and shows that if you just leave fucking Superman out of it, you can make compelling plotlines that don't rely on 'and then Superman wins' to tie it up for you later.

    Midway, on the other hand, has a fucking horrible art department where half their character roster is bare color swaps (green ninja! girl in mask with blue leotard! red ninja! girl in mask with purple leotard!) and there was nothing making you care about the character. Say what you will about Street Fighter IV, they will try their damndest to flesh out the story of what's happened to the characters between the time of II and III.

    Mortal Kombat has never been good. It's actually better if this isn't like Mortal Kombat. But, it will probably still be pretty bad.

    Midway has ruined pretty much every good game that they've had. I doubt I'll be playing any game made by them again.

    Fixed for accuracy.

    MK games lately have not been good fighting games like the others that have been coming out. They are bloodier, and and have some neat finishing moves, but some of them are so sensitive and hard to do its rediculous. I remember pausing MK games when it said FINISH HIM to look at a piece of paper with the button combo for the fatality and still not getting it. The system was so overly sensitive in some of the games. I doubt this will even come close to a rental, it's like a big joke, but a game, a game joke.

    I have no doubt in my mind this will fail and do it hard. Mortal Kombat is a garbage series that has never moved past it's oh my god look we put blood on the screen mentality from when it first came out. Now have Capcom make a Marvel vs. DC game and I'm in.

    If 3 didn't have such a retarded combo system (read : 100% damage combos) it would have been good, but I can't accept a fighting game with such glaring imbalance as that as "good." There were also a lot of glaring bugs throughout all of the various incarnations of MK3 that they never fixed.
