I just broke out Super Mario RPG again to try and get 30 super jumps and find all the hidden chests. Awesome game is awesome.

Fixed. It was a decent game, but it just wasn't up to the standards either Nintendo or Square had set for themselves on the SNES. Between Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Metroid, Link to the Past, FF4-6, Chrono Trigger, and Seiken Densetsu 2-3, Super Mario RPG just wasn't up to snuff for a Nintendo/Square teamup. If it had been Sonic the Hedgehog RPG made by Enix it wouldn't have been nearly as big of a letdown.

You're in the extreme minority of opinion about SMRPG. It took existing Nintendo IP and blended in some excellent graphics, mechanics and music. It brought out some actual Mario flavor into the game (jumping in combat, hidden blocks, timed attacks) rather than slapping his mug onto a generic sports title, which is all they're capable of doing with the franchise these days.

Huh? Everyone I know, including myself, loved the game when it first came out and it's still a very solid RPG. Different strokes, however saying it wasn't up to the standards of Nintendo or Square had set is a lie.

I personally didn't think SMRPG was all that hot, but then again I've never really been into Mario outside of Super Mario Bros 1 & 3 and Super Mario World.
I didn't find the storyline to be that great and the battles felt too slow.

I can see how other folks who were more in tune with Mario stuff could have enjoyed it, but it wasn't for me.

Sure, Xenogears was good through disc one. But disc two is mainly cutscenes because the game wasn't finished and Squaresoft rushed it out. At least Mario RPG was good all the way through.

I found Xenogears Disc 2 to be more compelling than SMRPG, but that's just me.
