Ack, I apologize. I misread what you had said in the post before, I had thought you said that you did not macro in Cure Clogs. Yes, full merits and Cure Clogs will bring you to the second tier just by themselves. Sorry for the confusion.

With your proposed gear (Loquacious Earring and Rostrum Pumps) and merit setup you would be at 24%, which is just above the first tier. Which would mean instead of casting Cure III through Cure V at 1.65 seconds you would be casting at 2 seconds. Your Curaga speed would also be affected. If this isn't a big deal and you would rather have the gil, then go for it.

    First of, amazing data.
Guess I should main merits+clogs on WHM/xxx non-curaga cures, until gear someday comes out that let's you hit 35 via merits+light arts+fast cast (outside of Jubbah+Loq combo) and wear enmity- on feet.

Fabulous work, I'm surprised at the existence of tiers.

Well actually I was thinking of what would happen when I have my Scholar subjob finished and I can use it actively..

In any case I think I may have phrased my question wrong. I was trying to figure out if I had all this in place except Jubbah, putting me at or close to the 50% tier, would Celerity still go off or would I hit a hard cap on casting time?

Oh, well in that case you would be 1% off of the second tier (10% Light Arts, 2% Loquacious Earring, 2% Rostrum Pumps, 20% merits | 34% total Cast Reduction).

What Celerity does is it halves the base casting time of whatever white magic spell comes next. It does not count towards Fast Cast. Therefore you can use Celerity to cut the spell cast time in half and then shave another few fractions of a second off of the spell with Cast Reduction gear. However, the spell will cast incredibly fast, so if you are wanting to do mid-cast gear swaps there is a very strong possibility that some or all of the gear will not have time to swap in before the spell is cast.

Can you do some SCH/RDM tests with Scholar Loafers + Light Arts up? So we SCH can finally determine the effect of them while Grimiores [Arts] are up.

Unfortunately, I do not have Scholar leveled above 37 at the moment and I do not have access to an account that has a Scholar at AF level. As much as I would love to test the full Curing ability of Scholars, I just can't at the moment. Hopefully I will be able to in the near future as my friends level up their Scholars (I'm busy with BLM otherwise I'd be leveling Scholar).

Unless there's some reason to doubt what's listed on both BG and Other wiki, I'm going to state the obvious and say it's 2.5% Fast Cast.

I guess a question I have on this is regarding the 50% cap, is that also another tier for Cure III/IV?(For my RDM, as /SCH hitting 50% is easy).

Nope. Only 20% and 35% are cast time tiers for Cure III through Cure V. However, if you hit the 48-50% on Curagas, it speeds the casting up.

Well, that's good news and bad I suppose, it kind of justifies me in a disagreement I had w/ LSmate about curing in Tabard vs. Errant Body, but that also means that /SCH isn't as hot for Pink Mage as I had previously thought...now I suppose the question is whether or not my excess Fast Cast is useless on other spells too.

You do know that the versatility offered by Scholar is ridiculous and makes BLM cry like a little boy at night, right? I mean, BLM still has its uses, but they buffed Scholar to a ridiculous level last patch.

Yeah, but my Black Mage is at level 71 ... so I figured that I might as well finish it.

Re: Cure Cast Time - Detailed Testing (Updated:4/30/08)

ok since no one asked the question i've been waiting for, you claim that you can only cast at certain percentages (tiers). The items you used to enhance fast cast were supposedly tested and found to reduce cast/recast times by a fixed percent.

does that mean that cure is a special case? do those items not work the way they're assumed to do? or is this due due to how long it takes to cast a cure spell? (i assume those items were tested w/ reraise and other long casting time spells)

I know the topic isnt about fast cast in general but i think this is kinda related to it

Those two merits would take you to 37% (15% Cure Clogs, 10% Light Arts, 2% Loquacious Earring, 10% merits) which would break the final 35% tier.
You mentioned 5% reduction per merit in this post and in the OP, but isn't it 4% reduction per merit? 5% per merit * 5 merits = 25%, not 20%.

Yes, Stoneskin, Blink and the full line of Reraises were also tested but not included in the final results as my aim was to focus on Cure Cast Time. There did not seem to be any kind of tier system in place on the cast time of the afore mentioned spells. As the Cast Reduction from gear and job traits increased, the cast time decreased as it should.

This would lead me to believe that the Cure line of spells are a special case and an exception to the normal rules. The Curaga line appears to follow the normal rules up to 37-40% Cast Reduction where it seems to stall until the 48-50% tier is broken.

Perhaps sometime in the future I can get around to testing other spells to see if there are other exceptions like the Cure line.

Yeap, I bungled that up. It should be 4% and not 5% as I listed on those posts. I'll correct that.

Re: Cure Cast Time - Detailed Testing (Updated:4/30/08)

    Code:
    Cure IV | WHM/SCH | | | | Yes | 10%| 74.23% | 2.529 sec
    Cure.IV..|.WHM/SCH.|.......|.......|....|....No......|..0%|.74.24%..|:2.531:sec
assuming PLD would get the same results, this basically means homam pants/loq earring make no difference on cure 4 since you dont get any change in casting time till u have 10+ fast cast.
