    LAC

We've recently lost a ranger due to them quitting and the ls leader is reluctant to do SSR boss w/o x2 shadow binds. Any general tips or strats to fight w/o the need of shadowbind so that I may convince them that we could still easily win. I just picked up my Hikazu Sune-Ate and I need some 25 nao

Run. Kiting during Brainjack mode is really the easiest way to deal with it. It doesn't move quickly, it will stop to attempt to TP, and both it and any charmed players will path like drunken zombies.

    Re: LAC

Have tanks ready to change to a gimpy weapon when its about to brainjack. More importantly, have everyone else ready to start kiting when it goes into brainjack mode. Everyone else. They won't need +movement, but it does help. LAC does sometimes use standard TP moves while kiting, so try to stay out of AE range, and keep an eye on the kiters for a quick erase. Once you're used to LAC its just as easy sans shadowbinding.

Its also handy for everyone to have reraise on, in case you die from getting hit/brainjack DoT. Usually healers hands are full rebuffing/rehealing and then supporting once you restart damage.

    Re: LAC

Sometimes on THF, I can manage to take hate at the start of a brainjack phase. When I see the first one, SA+WS, Collaborate the next target, then Flee around for a while and /laugh.

Failing that, having mages with Cuisses/Gaiters helps a ton. BLM and healer may both have a lot of hate near the end.

step 1: have melees bring signet staves and make a macro they hit when it turns.
step 2: when it brainjacks, take it to the porter rooms and kite around the two "exit" porter thingies.
step 3: laugh at me sitting on 15/35 morg hands w/ LAC refusing to put out for me.

    Re: LAC

We used to do LAC with 2x shadowbind... it's pretty nice but lately the second rng hasn't been around and our whm has been mia so I have to go whm instead of rng. As long as your tanks swap from a real weapon to a warp cudgel or signet staff kiting LAC shouldn't be an issue. Have mages keep stoneskin up and have your whm toss regen on the melee and keep them at full hp before charm. Last night we downed LAC w/ cor rdm brd mnk war whm, and at one point everyone but the cor was charmed

we had a blm in our group with that situation, finally dropped after 10+ kills, then we got another macha's cuffs the next day.

anyways, i think LAC is probably the easiest boss. kiting it is real easy, and he doesn't do anything dangerous. just make sure to get debuffs/songs/haste back up on tanks when they engage (should be the first ones uncharmed), and don't re-engage prematurely.

There is a Silver Sea thread with tons of information and proposals on how to fight this boss, including images with kitting paths proposed, not to mention pet strategies that range from two SMNs to one BST. Really.

    Re: LAC

One important thing I see new people always forget during kite phase: Run away from the target that has hate! I've see so many people run away rom LAC next to each other, instead of running away from the target with hate, resulting in Charm-chains, that it just starts to hurt....

    Re: LAC

I switch to Pitchfork +1 now because I still killed people with Warp Cudgel due to high club skill lol, its a pretty easy fight just have people change weapons when it faces them to brainjack and then kite till brainjack spam is over. If people forget to change weapons then just wipe shadows they may have with an aoe and bind them

i can do you one better. day before mine dropped, we killed LAC and it dropped 25 hands. i surrendered them to a friend w/ 35 hands but no real intent to make them b/c he didn't have rdm lvled and had zenith+1. less than 24 hrs later mine drops then 2 more following, with the last one going freelot. figures. ah well. been sitting on 15/35 skadi feet for much longer.

back on track, remember to use the pillars on the 4 corners of the teleporter in the side rooms to kite the chariot around. his huge, fat ass does not path well around them, but if you get too far ahead of him he just lunges up on top of the porter and corners you.

I try to have the blm go all out with nuking by the time of the 3rd charm phase to force charm on them. Have blink and stoneskin up and the hate reset afterwards is great.

LAC is a damn joke and Shadowbind is just a luxury for that thing.

Easy to kill with 6. Just can't speed kill it very easily due to charminess. Make sure people stay at high HP so they don't die to DoT while charmed, that's about it.

Well, it is a joke if you've been doing Salvage for awhile, so I won't be quite that condescending to some people.. but I definitely agree that Shadowbind is a luxury.

Everyone's proposed some great ideas here (changing out weapons, kiting) but the main thing during Brainjack phase is like people said -- kite out of range. Kite to the sides (I've noticed that LAC seems to get caught/stuck easily on the porters of either side of the room). If a THF's high enough on the hate list from SA+WS / Collab, they can kite nicely (especially if they have Striders).

*Definitely* make sure to bind your tanks. That helps more than anything else with this fight, when you don't have a crazy Monk chasing after you and trying to pummel you.

We usually do it with 8. I think we could do it with six, but I prefer to err on the side of caution with this boss.

Definitely can't speed kill it, but with SV+double minuets, our 2 Monks and SAM can usually drop the thing to about 60% before it starts getting charm happy.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm usually quick about weapon swapping so binding me isn't particularly a problem but my partner (who seems to be getting better with it now) has in the past had trouble swapping weapons in time. We usually drop it to about 75-80% at the start before the initial charm session with dual hundred fists.

Let him have overwhelming hate at the start, so that when it turns to jack him you would have already swaped wep out and be fucking out. you might be able to kite through the jack session with just 1 jack going off

    Re: LAC

we usually small manned LAC 6-8 people. We prefered to kite/fight where you tele up instead of his room. You can easily kite around the 2 exit elevators and with all those corners and turns the pathing slows him down.
