Attempting to install drivers reboots computer

Yesterday my computer completely locked up. When I reset the computer I noticed some weird ribbons of grey characters (vertical from top to bottom) behind the white text of my BIOS as my pc booted up. When it got to the Windows XP loading screen I saw the same ribbons but they had changed to a blue color. Now when I attempt to install different video card drivers (I thought something was up with my card) my computer reboots. I have tried the drivers that originally came with the card and I have tried more updated drivers with the same result. Every thing else seems to be working fine. Any ideas as to what could be the problem?

Re: Attempting to install drivers reboots computer

Last time I saw weird text-artifacts on my screen during BIOS/boot-up, my video card died. (it also looked cool as hell in the process, like an NES cartridge you forgot to blow into for 10min)

Drivers only come into play once Windows loads up, anything prior to that usually indicates failing hardware.

If anything, try reseating the video card and hope that fixes the problem.
