wtf did you hear that? Age of Conan stopped being a threat as soon as closed beta opened. The game is half finished, and has no distinguishing features aside from titties and gore.

People are saying the same about Warhammer's closed beta. I personally fear that the MMO genre is doomed

From what Misterbob said I don't know if I want to drop 50 bucks just to try it out. I would love to try it if they put it on the website for download and gave a 7 day free trial or something.

Sooo the people that were real good at WoW pvp seem to be extremely happy with the game so far...


Sounding like pretty much what I expected, AoC is shooting for just the pvp crowd where Warhammer is going to be the "everything in one game" attempt that actually has a chance to threaten WoW if it's done well enough.

PVP in this game is broken and hideously unbalanced. Not to mention none of the PVP features are even half-implemented yet. Then again, that sounds a lot like WoW's PVP, so it makes sense that they'd feel at home.

PvP in wow is going to be a whole new... crazyness in Wotlk if you've seen some the crazy stuff they've gave each class + new talents for each class.

Clothies won't be so easily a killabe target anymore and melee won't be an easy target for casters either. Its going to be "Op class abilites vs Op class abilities"...
anyway I'll still try AoC out later when they put out a trial maybe it'll be better later? who knows.

I'm playing in the Warhammer beta and can say that they've made a lot of progress in the past couple of months. That game still has months to go until release and I think it's going to be a solid RvR game. It should be quite a bit more polished than AoC at launch.

Not at all, like I said, look up how it was done in games like DAoC

I believe a better (although still not near perfectly accurate) comparison would be something like campaign, except the yagudo/quad/orcs are also player characters and there's no "battle starts now" campaign moments, just constant fighting around certain parts of the map.


Oh and there's not necessarily any formal alliances... but there may be.

AoC looks interesting, but I don't think it's worth quitting WoW or Xi for.

While a part of me wants to get it just so I can play from it's "Launch" seeing as i joined WoW and XI late in their 'lives', I think AoC wont go as far as Warhammer.

Honestly. The only PVP I liked in any online "MMO" was Diablo 2, on Hardcore mode. Classes didn't matter that much, just gear and strategy. I swear, my fucking Javazon fucked alot of HC-US east up back in the day.

Age of Conan is worth the $50 if you treat it like any other RPG you end up playing for a month. It reminds me of Guild Wars a lot in that regard. However, I'm not feeling that it's going to be worth a monthly fee, at least in its current state.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, if it wasn't another monthly fee to add to the list I'd probably be trying it by now, but I haven't been impressed enough to consider dropping another game for it.

Ya, EQ2's launch, I still remember a few people quitting XI and saying "EQ2 is the FFXI KILLER W00T!!!!!", then the same thing for Vanguard, then same for Conan, etc.

I think the only one that did compete with XI (after XI's launch) was WoW. So far nothing's come close to the amount of turnover WoW caused on FFXI.

It was so unbelievably horrid at launch I can't believe anyone actually paid for more than 1 month, kinda bad frame of reference to say AoC makes you want to go back to it lol
