I prefer 2 rdm over a brd and rdm, however it doesn't mean having a brd in a static won't work. A bard's job imo is to pull mobs. So a skilled bard would be evasive and a fast puller. In Nyzule Isle mobs ranged from EP to DC, so they go down fast. For floors that require you to kill all mobs, there should be mobs for the DD b4 a mob is even killed.

Same goes for scouting for 1 specific NM, a bard needs to be able to sleep mobs and/or safely pull the NM to the party. To make this easier, i suggest using fillmode with windower. If you don't know how to do this, send me a PM.

There are some things that don't aggro, but most of it does. Like, I think Tom Tit Tat doesn't, for example. I know Marids will sight aggro. But a good rule of thumb is to assume everything does and just put up sneak/invis if you need to get past.

Yes. Although Alzadaal has permanent double water weather, once you go into Nyzul, it changes to permanent single light. Korin Obi is awesome for anyone that's curing. I will admit I have a habit of forgetting mine though.

One thing to know is...it gets easier. The first few times you go will always be hardest, because you don't know what to expect (altho read up as much as possible) and you aren't accustomed to working together. If you happen to have one of those evil never-speak-of third party chat programs like Ventrilo or Teamspeak, it will make life a lot easier on your group. Don't let initial losses get you or your group down.

I'll probably get chewed out for saying this but...BRDs don't *have* to pull in Nyzul for you to be successful, so don't base your determination to try to form a group on whether or not you're a good puller or are going to want to pull. I will say, having a BRD puller fly through the areas (with evil windower fillmode) will make groups much more efficient though if you need to be. My group has spent a good amount of our Nyzul career just moving along through the kill all, etc. zones together and just BRD pulled what's right in front of us or Melee/Tank ranged pull what's right in front of us and we've done fine. I tend to examine the situation on RDM of what we're fighting in the room and whether they have enough buffs and curing power and I occasionally w.legs run off to check where else we need to head close by as to not waste time hitting deadends. Sometimes our BRD does the same thing, but she's not on ventrilo so it's hard to coordinate when she runs off XD It really just depends on your group dynamics. See how you're working out after you start getting the hang of things, and if you find you're too slow or wander around too much then get BRD mega pulling if you're not already.

And yes, be prepared for everything to aggro, like was mentioned. There's a few things that still don't aggro, like Puktraps I believe, but just assume everything does and sneak/invis past what you don't need, and sleep adds you don't need to kill or hold on to for very long (i.e. you have kill specified enemy objective, and you get an add while getting to the 1 enemy...just sleep it and don't waste time with it). Be aware that many of the Vana'diel NMs you encounter cannot be slept...but most all of them can at least be kited if need be (bind/grav/run, etc.). And yeah, you got things like Poroggos and Soulflayers that are susceptible to BRD songs but not RDM magic, and vice versa. Learn which are which. If you get a lamp floor, activating a lamp at any time will reset hate on the player for anything chasing them (assuming you can click it through the "event skipped" if the mob is taking swings). Might save someone's life knowing this.

You gear is only important on the ToAU bosses...in which even the best gear will probably result in elegy resist the majority of the time. Skill and alertness are the things to stock up on in Nyzul Isle.

Anyway, I've babbled on long enough...this and much other useful stuff can be found on blogs and your neighborhood wikis too in more detail.

P.S. Don't have your main tank or your main healer be the discholders, or Floor100 will suck someday.

Yes, Korin obi is god in Nyzul. Brds and Whms are required to have it. Btw, if you DO take a whm (like i do), /Blu is the next best thing to god. Several times, White magic restriction can hose your whole run and you'll usually get them in streaks.

Brd does not need to pull. Hell, I've never even done nyzul with brd. We look at the objective and spilt up looking for the required mob/thing/whatever.

And yeah, Colibris aggroing made me double-take the first time.

    - Storm Fife.

    - It may be a good idea for you to be one of the disc holders. This will allow more liberal purchasing of items by tanks and melee.

    - It's fast paced. I don't usually pull on BRD, since usually the group as a whole is moving quickly. Have to time songs for when people are killing something.

    - In the interest of saving time, you'll probably want someone running back to the pole in anticipation of completing the floor. Usually this will be you. So you need to have good situational and positional awareness. Get a feel for when you're on the last mob or whatnot, and remember where you ran from. Obviously, if you're using the fillmode thing, this is easier, but not all groups use that (mine doesn't).

    - If you're leading, the main strategy you should keep in mind is ordered lamps. This isn't too hard with good communication and someone calling the order to try...without that, it's a major timewaster.

    As general notes...

    - You will not always win. Accept it. Exit early to get tokens, or take advantage of it and kill some random NMs.

    - Everyone should be paying attention. Avoid aggro, using sneak/invis if needed to save time, sticking together, or with their partner(s) if that's how you do things. Yes, everything aggros.

    - Melee and tanks especially should purchase items for boss floors.

What is this sneak and invis you speak of, unless it's a lamp floor we just aggro everything and have the brd sleep it, or better yet put in that practice you've been needing for MGS4. btw if you're like my group and split up sometimes to find mobs ~ Sam and Mnk work well for aggroing soulflayers and puddings

Sometimes it's faster to kill things than sleep them. Random death from being overwhelmed with adds is stupid and loses more time on the next floor.

    Good communications on lamp floors.

Be prepared to lullaby gears on 'don't be detected by gears' floors. BRD sleeping them before everyone agros them is <3. Doesn't count as agro and you don't get penalised. Floors with Gears sucks and if you get them with lamps /wrists ><

Pull everything merit pt style if its a kill all floor. Otherwise sneak/invis up and know what mobs you are looking for based on the objective of that floor. And try remember the route back to the portal. My group tends to find the mobs and whilst melee are killing them off the BRD does songs then runs back to port up when we are done so that we save ourselves a few seconds.

Get a decent group of people and start doing it. Like Kkel said, you will not win every single time. Sometimes it'll just laugh in your face. But the best thing to do is practice by starting out asap with the same group of people. Stick together. Also for lamps, have 1 person call out orders for it. If you're going to lead the group take charge! I promise doing Nyzul well will take time but you'll eventually be able to do it without issue.

Set up your static so that you can split into groups of 2 or 3 without a problem. Mobs on Kill All floors die really quickly, so it's more efficient to send small teams out to rip through them.

Don't underestimate BLM for Nyzul. They make Flan and Jellies so much easier.

If all of your melee /NIN or know how to properly use /SAM, you don't need a designated tank.

My group's set up is war mnk thf cor rdm brd. Our bard always get clerics/sprinters. He's also our puller/lamp order person. He always take the room with the most aggro so that he could horde lullaby, touch lamp, lose hate, and reapply sneak/invis.

Distribution wise, everyone picks 1 piece of armor they want for each slot. It works well for us so far.

    Hi Yvonne,

I'm on your server, and have been doing Nyzul with KoolAid as BRD for almost a year (currently have 92,000 tokens, and have done 2 discs to 100 and then both of them back up to 100 again). If you have any specific questions that crop up in Nyzul, please feel free to shoot me a /tell or msg and I'd be happy to try to answer them. I'm sure I make a ton of mistakes in Nyzul, but will help if possible.

You tanked my G2 like 3 years ago - still owe you for that.

Windower command, redraws the zone in wireframe. Basically lets you see through walls, which has obvious benefits in Nyzul.

Necro-bumping thread because I got a question and couldn't find it with search or on bgwiki. Do you have to climb the floors 5 at a time? Like lets say I jump up to the 50th floor on someone elses disc, will it save on mine as well when we leave at 55?

  18. #38
    Ashira

It will now IF you have floors 1-50 on your own disc previously. If you yourself have a new disc in your key items, you have to start on floor 1 to save floors on it.

Not true. Your progress gets saved every multiple of 5 if you exit on that floor or after. For instance my group regularly climbs more than 5 floors a run. If you go from 16-23 and successfully exit, your progress will be saved on floor 20. The bonus is that you get extra tokens/NM opportunities.

As a bard, the most helpful things you can do outside of your normal support is scout ahead of your group after pulling. Direct them on where to go, when to sneak/invis if mobs are around corners. You should also be the person to run back and exit/climb when you think you are on the last couple mobs (as the scouter you should know when this is).
Storm Fife's probably the most important piece as people have mentioned. I also like sha'ir hands to help with recasting lullaby and finale.
