Re: Sneak and Invisible 100% effective?

Very unlikely imo. Mostly I bet it's lag that causes the issues. Shock Spikes can wake a slept mob. Stuff like that shows there's odd lag outs in the system or even glitches. Sneak and invis are so reliable in all likelihood it's a glitch/lag rather than a game mechanic.

I aggroed a room full of trolls in Bhaflau Remnants once after popping a prism powder, but I always assumed that was some bizarre lag.

    Hi Hoshi!

I put recast tonko while my current one was only on first warning and got interrupted, but invis just wore, but i'm pretty sure was just lag.

I'll second this one. For me, it has always done 100% exactly what it was supposed to do. I have, however, seen sneak take 11 seconds instead of 15 to wear off as others in the thread have mentioned.

I'm sure there are other weird occasions, but I have just never had one happen to me. I always chalked most of them up to people being "pretty sure" they cancelled-recasted correctly and then dying, but being too embarrassed to admit they could have messed up.

Has anyone had weird aggro with the fomors outside Whitegate? Two or three times I've had Sneak up, white HP, and walked near one and they made a aggro noise and attacked me. It wasn't JA aggro either.

Great question. My personal belief is that there are certain mobs which are not true sight, but have a certain chance to detect you anyway. I've been doing Brothers ENM weekly for years, and have noticed this with Kindred Summoners in Ulegeurand Range. Most of the time they don't see you, but every once in a while, they seem to, even if there is no Molech anywhere near them to tip them off. And it's only ever happened to me with the summoners, not with the other Kindred wandering around that last area before Jormungand.

It seems to me it's happened before with other mobs, but Kindred Summoners just seem to jump to mind.

    This.

I think I just deleted a screenshot of it sadly... gonna have to see if I really did. But, both sneak/invis are up, no molech aggro and a kindred summoner just starts wailing on me. Pissed me off so much that day.

Re: Sneak and Invisible 100% effective?

It was always my belief with my old ENM group on Fenrir, and I don't know where we got the figure from so don't ask, but Kindred's had a 1/50 chance, roughly, to spawn true sight.

Might be bullshit, but I've seen it happen with more than just summoners, BLM and WAR have done it in the years that I've been ENMing, and only on Kindred in Ule.

Re: Sneak and Invisible 100% effective?

Now, I've always thought about it as 100%, and to be honest... with the rate that it seems to fail (unconfirmed so you get my point) it's kind of a useless topic to argue.

And just for you people out there who think it might not work, Squeenix has the answer for you

Re: Sneak and Invisible 100% effective?

I always assumed that the terms "99.99%" and "lessens the chance" were selected to give GMs something easy to fall back on if people complained about getting aggro while using oil, etc. It might as well say "100%, but shit happens."

Re: Sneak and Invisible 100% effective?

Was mentioned before, but this happened to me on the way to brothers before as well. No SS, but I had a kindred (don't remember what job) run up while I was invised and whack me, taking my invis off in the process. No sound aggro mobs, magic aggro mobs, or molechs in sight - just the one normal kindred that completely disregarded my invis. Was no warnings of it wearing either: being hit took it off.

Re: Sneak and Invisible 100% effective?

maybe it's a glitch not with the kindred mob itself but with his ele accidentally being mislabled as true something or magic aggro? were you casting near it? is it possible you aggroed the pet and the master followed suit? just throwing out ideas here.

All my years of sneaking around, I've never been dropped by something that wasn't true sight/sound/detects by smell or something like that.

    Over 20%?

Wow, that's a lot more people than I expected. I'll take this as confirmation that there's a tiny chance.

One time I did get agro by a Fomor beastmaster outside of whitegate for no fucking reason with sneak on. But that's like.. once in five years or so? I'm gonna go with 100%.

If it IS a 99.99% chance of beating the detection roll, wouldn't that 1 in 10,000 chance sound about right over 5 years, and only for a minority of players?

Re: Sneak and Invisible 100% effective?

Interesting, in about a year of doing the brothers ENM once a week I aggro'd a kindred summoner on the ramp just before Jorm once. I had always assumed I managed to aggro something lower on the mountain, but thanks to crimson pants outran it so I never noticed it(I normally walk behind things even with invis up out of habit) and because I already had aggro it saw me and came to kick my ass right at the top (further assumed whatever had originally aggro'd me gave up since nothing but the kindred and it's elemental attacked me). But that was just me trying to justify to myself why in the hell I managed to aggro a kindred with invis up.

Seems I'm not the only one to have experienced it.

Maybe they mean that it cuts down 99.9999...% of all friction, so 100%.
