    Soloing Alkyoneus

I plan on farming Alkyoneus's Bracelets and wanted to know if anyone could provide any tips or advice? I have THF and PLD at 75, uncapped eva, uncapped parrying, uncapped marksminship, and very few merits. What are the chances that I can solo Alkyoneus?

Edit: Used search function and came up with nada.

nil until you cap (or close to) EVA and you definently need to cap marksmanship.

Pretty much sums it up...Even with capped eva and capped marksmanship, you probably will fail pretty hard without merits and an evasion setup on your thf. Never hurts to try at least once though, that way you can gauge how impossible it really is.

you'll be fine as long as you have capped marks/EVA, sushi, spam bloody bolts

NPC is a big help too if they are high level. The healer one is quite beneficial.

Also, what other people have said. I would go cap Evasion on some mandragoras in the tree while subbing BLU or RDM for damage mitigation while spamming bloody bolts. But there's probably more efficient ways ;x

    Re: Soloing Alkyoneus

Make sure when you go up there on THF that you have capped Marksmanship and a Ranged Accuracy Macro Swap for Bloody/Acid/Blind Bolts, Feint may also be useful for those moments where a bolt refuses to land.

I've solo'd him once or twice on my THF and he wasn't that hard, just that when he does get a hit in it hurts.
Worst part really are the links: the other Gigas are all to happy to stroll over and you can't really pull him into the corridors since the bats aggro sound and the undead might aggro your HP if you get unlucky.
The Gigas also like to sit at range and used their asshole throwing move which is way more accurate than their regular melee hits so they strip shadows pretty quick.

Not to mention the pop item can be abitch to get. Way back when a friend and I used to farm there every day I think I parsed Shield Drop at 5% and Pallas Horn at 10% drop with TH4 and TH3.
That said I've seen DRG go 1/1 on the pop items for both so ymmv, Random Number Generator, etc.

Also level Clothcraft and take some Lightning Crystals with you. You can desynth the socks into Linen, which doesn't necessarily sell for much but it does add up over time, with luck you can pay off some of the Shihei and Bolts you use farming.

Make sure you cap your Eva and Marksmanship since both are vital to THF solo.
You can do both at once on Steelshells, though Eva can be quite the whore to cap.

With capped Eva/Marksmanship and a decent +R.Acc swap for Bolts you should be able to solo Alky.
Just watch out for pops/links and hope the Alky you get isn't one of those cocky ones that spams Shadow Stripping moves.

Honestly, I'd recommend bringing a friend, to break up the monotony and to help you claim/kill the other Gigas for pop items. Sometimes you get there and the place is empty, sometimes it's happy hour.

    G'luck either way.

Alky is pretty easy. You don't need an evasion setup or bloody bolts if you have a level 65 npc.

However if you have 75 thf, you really should have evasion and marksmanship capped regardless.

My NPC is lv 62, so that might help. And yea... I almost never use THF. Marksmanship is close to cap (about 15-20 levels off) but EVA is probably slightly higher than it's cap on PLD. So that has room for major improvement.

    Re: Soloing Alkyoneus

THF can solo pretty easily if you can:

    1. Count.
    2. Focus.
    3. Equip gear slightly above the par of a gilseller.
    4. Land bolts at least 80% of the time.

With sushi, if you have high but uncapped Marksmanship you should be fine. Otherwise you might want to try to get it up to at least 200+. Bloody bolts are obviously the most important, but blind and acid bolts assist greatly as well.

I've solo'd it a few times rather easily on a THF mule of mine that doesn't really have much for merits/gear, one time I didn't even have bloody bolts on me. Evasion gear helps as well, but depends on how you prefer to fight it.

    Re: Soloing Alkyoneus

Adds arent an issue, you can fight him right on top of the ??? pop spot and be a-ok. An EVA setup is a must, bring blind bolts too to help out, they can make this a bit easier for sure. Sometimes his acc is just terrible and other times he cant miss you no matter what. Ive soloed him tons of times and he has killed me a few times too... one sticks out in my head where I was in full eva gear and he managed to hit me 7 consecutive times... i hit PD/Feint to bolt back up, he lightning roared me ftw! But that isnt the norm, *most* of the time full eva gear with blind bolts + bloody bolts and he is .

Anyway the actual worst part about him is his drop rate...

oh and if it matters my eva setup is pretty standard...

    sharness +1
    ohat
    boxers
    war gloves +1
    dance shoes
    eva torque

Silly Ruke, Focus is a monk ability.

But yea, Mnk can solo so Thf should be able to solo easily. Having an evasion kit for your thf is a good idea if you use it more than never.

I'm talking about THF/MNK solo'ing it, obviously. /NIN is for pussies.

Be a man and /MNK that bitch, and show him who's the real boss with your backhand blows.

With a decent eva build, I wouldn't be surprised if you could solo it Ichi only and with minimal bolt use.

    Re: Soloing Alkyoneus

The first few posts of this thread are very misleading. <_< This is one of the easier NMs a THF can solo that isn't of a piddly level. Get your evasion to that of a lv75 MNK, wear an Evasion Torque, and put on DD gear for the rest of it. Chances of you needing to use any bolts at all are slim if you can focus like Ruke said, but obviously they are nice to have.

When I killed it on THF, I just used Ungur Boomerang.

    Re: Soloing Alkyoneus

For THF, cap your skills as suggested, and bring bloody bolts, because you will take enough damage throughout the fight to kill if not cured, (or get very lucky he doesnt spam that 1 move).
