Casual can be good. It's just not going to have as long a play life because less effort is involved in play.

'Casual' and 'Hardcore' describe play styles. It's not something you just brand a game with. WoW gamers can be just as Hardcore as the 5am Aery Campers and both games reward such play styles. 'Casual' isn't some pejorative.

I like LotrO just fine. It gives me something to do when I have my character in FFXI logged in on my laptop with their flag up for 6 hours not getting an invite. The fact that I have a lifetime membership makes it nicer, even if it won't technically be worth it for another year.

The raiding in LotrO vastly improved with the introduction of the Rift. Looking forward to the mines of moria expansion. So far my only disappointments with the game are: Balrog skin sucks. Dread/Hope system sucks, it could have been so much better than it is and I hope they fix it in the expansion.

Oh, and the devs actually listen to the playerbase..... sort of.

LotR:O is supposed to be really good. It's casual as hell and has the LotR license used well.

I downloaded the 7 day free trial which gave me access to the entire game for those days. It is EXACTLY like WoW but in LoTR format. It was almost unreal how similar the two games were. The battle system, graphics, action bar on the bottom, pretty much everything. I deleted it after my trial was up, that kind of gaming is just too dull for me.

QFT, it is literally WoW with a LotR facade. Visually I liked it better than WoW, although the armor is some of the most ridiculous, bland, and goofy looking style of any game I've seen. It's not bad, but not original either. The one thing that really bothered me was the sound effects. It seems as though they took a lot of the random, left over sound effects from the movie library and used it in the game. They are LOUD as hell, even on the lowest setting. In towns there is a constant stream of random causeless noises; a cat meowing, water pouring into a bucket, horse neighing, bell clanging, and the only way to escape them is turn effects off.

Honestly, LOTR is actually a clone of Asheron's Call 2, not WoW. AC2 existed before WoW, but failed due to poor design. However, it had the same UI and general gameplay as LOTR, and LOTR actually used its engine.

I've been trying to read this thread, but ever since someone said something good of FFX-2, I've only been lost in disbelief. All the rest was irrelevant.

Archlord's also completely free these days. It can't be that hard to convince 500,000 people to play a free game.

Doesn't SE usually state, that there are about 500k paying accounts, so while the may rarely ever deactivate accounts (unless you are banned or totally deleted your account), they won't count account that don't have an active Content ID.
