Questions for crafting dons from a crafting newbie
Excuse me. There are a few things which are not addressed in the aurik thread. Maybe it's because the answers are expected to be obvious; but what if they are not to some people?
1) It is quite clearly stated that there is no solid data that suggests moon phase, day of the week and direction faced while crafting has any impact on HQ, skillup rates and break rates. I must say, this is at odds with what I have read and heard over a lengthy period of time. However, I trust you guys to know what you are talking about. In a nutshell is the whole theory that all these things have an impact on crafting, simply bullshit? So one does not need to be concerned with them?
2) Some of you may be familiar with the term 'power crafting'. I have always assumed to this mean simply sitting next to an AH, buying up everything, and as the name suggests, simply powering one's way through the levels of a craft. A guy I know went from 27-45 GS within several hours. Is this the correct meaning? Do you have any particular thoughts on power crafting?
3) I recently made a thread here asking about Clothcrafting and a leveling path within it known as 'silk road'. In that thread, people pointed out that 'silk road' was only relevant back in 2005. It was a term that could often be found it crafting guides from that time. Now there are other synths which can be made to progress through that particular range. I asked someone in game, who claims to be a level 100 Clothcrafter, and the person basically said that he leveled Clothcrafting in 2007 and silk road was "hell" for him. Should I take what that person said with a pinch of salt? Truthfully, I trust you guys more.
I'm very interested in hearing your views.

Re: Questions for crafting dons from a crafting newbie
1: Lots of people say that moon/day/time effects crafting but there is no actual numbers ever presented in that arguement. Its always "a friend told me", "i read it on KI/Alla/whereever" but without any actual numbers. Also if you only ever craft at the times you're meant to get good skill ups, then because you only ever craft then thats the only time you ever see good numbers. As a matter of fact it's the only time you ever see any numbers at all. Hi2u 9 0.1s in a row at 37% moon, and all my decent tier0s/1s come at random moon phases on random days. Putting it simply, craft more and you hq/skill up more. Fuck waiting 7 hours for the next full moon.
2: Yes.
3: lolsilkroad. Silk is cheap as fuck and is easily farmable. Other crafts have "roads" that are much much worse in the current economic situation.

Re: Questions for crafting dons from a crafting newbie
GS 27-45 isn't that bad to do quickly, with the right materials in stock.
While the term "powerleveling" implies speed, there is also a blatant disregard for cost and market balance.

Re: Questions for crafting dons from a crafting newbie
1. While there's no conclusive proof as to moon phases, days, direction etc. effecting the results, but as for me, I choose to believe that I have better luck when I'm 'superstitious'. And when it comes to expensive crafts for skill ups and HQs, a little superstition never hurt anyone.
2. Also known as 'zerging', I did it w/ leathercraft for the sub. I took my time and finished in like 2-3 days iirc.
3. I personally chose not to do this 'silk road'. I may have spent more money, but it was a lot easier for me. I did black chocobo fletchings, which save me room, and the crystals were dirt cheap. The feathers you can usually find at the NPC at chocobo stables in whichever nation is in 1st place. I think I did this long enough to where I could craft Rainbow Thread. Currently @ Clothcraft 95.6+3. Spending money on silk is nothing compared to spending money on Rainbow Cloth. :<

Re: Questions for crafting dons from a crafting newbie
1) There is no conclusive evidence that suggest that full moon/new moon/day/direction have any adverse affect on your crafting. I've HQ'd 4/25 T1 synths on the 55% moon and HQ'd 0/25 T1 on the Full Moon/New Moon. Its completely random, but if you get into your crafting thing, you may only craft during a specific moon phase or whatever. I still only craft with dark crystals on lights day. Does it have an affect on the craft? Who knows... but it makes me feel better.
2) As mentioned, yes you can do this, but it can be expensive and will have affects on the demand for the item you are synthing (likely driving the price down for the item you are crafting but drive the price of the materials up). This is only reccomended if you have a large amount of gil to burn.
3) I do not do CC so I am not sure about this. My reccomendation is to use FFXIAH.com and FFXI encyclopedia to figure out which crafts have materials that are readily available and inexpensive. Since 2005, they have released 2 expansion packs and have added a good number of new crafts. The price of crafting has also dropped substantially since then, so other items they reccomend in a 2005 faq may cost no less other more available items.
Hope this helps you and GL with whatever path you take.
