log in problems

let me start by saying thank you in advance to anyone with any information on this subject. I am tech savvy in ways of most hardware but sometimes the software trips me up from time to time.

My problem is that every time i attempt to log onto my character while he is in pashhow marshlands i get a POL error message and cannot log in. this problem is usually rectified by just logging onto my character on another computer and moving from before mentioned area, but at the minute the other computer is down and is not an option.

my thoughts (which might be wrong just brain storming the problem) are that one or more of the files containing the information for pashhow marshlands is corrupted. this being said i would have no idea which files it would be or which folder they would be in.

if anyone has any other thoughts as to the problem or information where i can find these files to check there validity, i would greatly appreciate it.

I just recently started back not too long ago, and had no problems like this up until I installed WotG. Once I installed this, I couldn't zone into Ru'lude, Tharongi, quite a few other places without FFXI just crapping out completely with that annoying Vista error. Anyways, when this happened I'd have a hell of a time getting back on.

Since WotG's update isn't very big after install, and you don't have access to your other PC, you *could* try uninstalling it and see if this can get you out of the zone. This is assuming that our issue was the same, and that you do currently have WotG installed. I'd be interested to see if this resolves your issue, because I currently have it uninstalled, and I'm not sure how to play with it installed... sucks.

yes i do have all the expansions and all the updates to date. i called a GM from one of my mules and he said to run a file check in POL. Yet from what i have gathered on file check it seems it is either only for playstation users or is embedded to deep in the POL menues for me to find atm. either way im still stuck >.<

How to do a manual file check:
Open PoL Viewer, before selecting an account to log-in to on the left side is a menu, one option is to check files. (if you auto log-in you will need to take a step backwards to get to this menu)

Do NOT click check files right away, it will only check files for PoL. It doesnt look like a drop down list but it is, click where it says Play Online Viewer. Select Final Fantasy XI, it should be the middle option. Now select check files. It will take about 12 minutes to do the initial check. Unfortunately after it finds the problem files you need to select repair files and this will start a normal file check. This check takes about the same amount of time as the first.. I do not know why you have to do it twice -.- After the 2nd check you can do the actual repairing.

/sigh finished file check and it says that everything checks out for both ffxi and POL. there goes my hypothesis right out the window. the unistal reinstal plan of action is staring me in the face but i really really really dont want to have to go through the what is it like 3 hour update to get back to where i need to be. that doesnt sound fun at all. i think i may just have to wait until tech support is available and contact them. /em tries to figure out what to do with life for another 48 hours

I'd really suggest just trying uninstalling WotG, it sounds like what was happening to me, or very similar, plus your looking at like a 10 min update after you reinstall WotG, if it doesn't solve your problem. It's possible that we had different issues and this won't help at all, but seems like its your next fastest attempt at troubleshooting.

omg this happens every time. i randomly try and log back on and all of a sudden i magically can.... sometimes this game can be kinda frustrating. o well thanks for your help tho.
