Re: Mother Earth Strikes Back, Target: China

All I can say is, this is (god's) answer to overpopulated areas.

Earthquake- X thousand die, then if a shit ton more die. If relif takes too long maybe the corpses will get a plague to start up, more die, etc, or if another disaster hits within a week, China will have another problem on their hands.

Sure it sucks. Lot of human lives lost, but as it was said before, this'll fade in your minds like other. I noticed no one mentioned the 2004 9.3 Magnitude Earth Quake in the Indian Ocean that took the lives of (estimated) 225,000 people. Guess an Earth Quake in an Earth Quake topic isn't on topic, or it faded like this soon will.

Opinion: While you should care, and if you worship a god, pray or whatever to the said god for those stuck in this, just be sure this doesn't slip your mind the next time god decides to clean house.

Yet ironically in regard to that sentiment, and certainly to a mixed end result, China is one of the few nations that is actively engaging population growth.

If there was a God doling out justice for overpopulation, he'd have ruptured the ground under the donated house of the Mr. & Mrs. Clown-Car-Vag.

Or we could stop being superstitious.

While I do believe in god and religion, I am confuzzled upon what you have said.

Earthquake happens = god intentionally killing these 10 thousand chinese people? Or Chinese population is insanely dense and they happen to live on a bad place and in unstable housing that cannot take earthquake damage?

Shit happens all the time, and people love to fingerpoint. Sometimes you are just in the wrong place at the wrong time, this is the earth constantly changing and moving, without a care who is living apon the surface, just ask our good friends the Dinosaurs.

Uh...he's saying God = omnipotent and responsible for all things (which isn't exactly inconsistent with a lot of theology) so God created the earthquake.

so i just read this amazing rescue story

rescue team was digging through the rubbles and saw this woman under a heavy pillar, body broken into three places

they were gonna move on, but then they noticed how her body bends into the shape of a dome, and the rescue team suddenly realized maybe she's protecting someone underneath

so they pulled her out, and there it was, a 3 month old baby completely unharmed

and next to the sleeping baby they also found a cellphone with a text msg on it

"baby, if you are still alive after this, just know that i love you"

Last thing I read up on it was the 900 or so school kids who were buried underneath the rubble of their school, any updates on that?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/13/world ... ref=slogin
“There’s no hope for them,” said Lu Zhiqing, 58, as she watched uniformed rescue workers trudge through mud and rain toward the mound of bricks and concrete that had once been a school. “There’s no way anyone’s still alive in there.”

Many sad stories in the earthquake. Especially the ones about individuals sacrificing their lives for others. This young teacher dragged out 11 First Graders before dive into the building again, the kids were terrified and didn't know what to do so they just sat there. On the 12th time the structure crumbled. She was only 20

Warning: dead people alert -- might be very disturbing

Re: Mother Earth Strikes Back, Target: China

As far as anyone calling this "nature's reaction to overpopulation":

Sadly, sorta true. The more we crowd the planet, the easier it is for a natural event to knock off thousands of human beings.

30,000+ at this point, and that's an isolated part of China. If it'd been Beijing or the like, it'd probably have been million+...

...and despite how many people died, it's barely a scratch in the population. That typhoon in Myanmar actually did more harm as far as killing folks off, and even then- we're in the 5+ billion range worth of people. As a percentage of the world population, this is tragic but it's not huge.

I'm waiting for another high-7 to 8+ event to hit someplace that's densely populated, like many parts of Japan or California. Matter of time.

anything under an 8.5 EQ in california wouldn't have too much of an effect outside of the economy. Nowhere NEAR as many lives would be lost, due to california building code and all the crazy engineering that has to be done here. All that not to mention how much easier it is to get to places here, along with rampant technology, etc

I thought this article was ironic...

    China pleads for tents

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/0 ... index.html

Not to be a dick...but aren't most tents (and most everything else) made in China?

Certainly in a national crisis such as this they can export less and donate some to their own people.

Maybe the earthquake destroyed many of the factories or warehouses that had the tents in them?
