As a great axe diehard for years now, I have a simple rule. Use whichever animations you like watching the most, that suits the situation you need it for at the time.

Actually, my joy is with Vorpal Blade.Originally Posted by fantasticdan

My point is, the utility of WAR comes with wielding a great axe. The fun of WAR is the flexibility of wielding multiple weapons.

It's not really an opinion, both are just slashing damage, one is more slashing damage than the other, but if you like to go out of your way to do less damage and make the party slower, by all means, go for it. I'll be right behind you with my melee rdm, dual-wielding drk, club equipped blu, and pastoral singing brd.Originally Posted by Naver

Screw around with all the weapons on your own time, but seriously, do not use crappy non-A skill weapons when other people are depending on your contribution to the group.
On Rampage and food while leveling:
I found it best for a long period of time to stick with Sushi and just buff up the STR/DEX/ATK side, but there's completely differing opinions and data and nothing that's conclusive either way. Just don't go full accuracy and forget that you still need other stats for the hits you're landing to actually be worth a damn.
I'll bite even though you're being hive-minded about this.Originally Posted by fantasticdan

And those are just two examples of how a non-cookie cutter player can do if you know what you're doing. Doesn't necessarily always make the party slower, and if you're having fun doing it then why not? But again all you really know is insults to help your cause. But I do have to agree you make some solid points. Learn to have fun and lighten up.
I switched it up a bit, Got a tungi got some new things and today on puks at lv 60 I was doing 700-800 Rampages. Not to bad I just need some more gil so I can afford stuff like Amement mantle+1 and save gil for wood+man when I get higher up.
My Gaxe fell behind and I'm working on it now. I will probably catch it up and switch from Gaxe to dual axes each lv.
Ive got another question, I know juggy maneater and wood are the endgame warrior axes but what are the best endgame Gaxe's?
perdu, byakko's, martial, rampager, tossed my byakkos and rampager when i got perdu and have no regrets if that says anything.
Perdu, Martial, and Fortitude. Fortitude is ridiculous dot. With /sam, marches, haste, etc. it's constant RR spam.
Tossed Byakko's and Rampager as soon as I got Perdu as well. I use Perdu for anything I use Raging Rush with, which is mostly merit parties and the odd time I get to come War to an HNM and make Fragmentation. Use M.Bhuj for anything where I'll be spamming Steel Cyclone, mostly god fights or anywhere I'll be closing Darkness, and I use Fort.Axe when zerging shit or I like to bust it out in Limbus just for fun, or anywhere just to have fun.
Rune Chopper is pretty sick and fairly over looked. Even with just with sanction refresh it nets you about 5% haste. Get Rdm friend to merit with and you'll easily be swapping out some haste gear for other stats.
Overall I've found Fort. Axe to fall behind significantly or a long parse. The really low damage just isn't made up by the DAs and the since the WSs are a lot lower, meditate doesn't have nearly as big of a damage increase as when using a higher damage great axe. Unless you're fighting really soft mobs I think Fort. Axe really falls behind.
Hrm, so you'd recommend staying with Rune Chopper? My options are basically that or Fortitude Axe; given my other jobs, I doubt my WAR will see much action in group activities once it hits 75, so I'm not really sure I want to get a Perdu. The RDM in my static only has 1 other person to refresh, so he's agreeable to tossing them my way as needed. I also have 5 stacks of virtue stones saved up, so that's not a problem >.>
I've never seen Fort. Axe beat Byakko, Rune Chopper, or Perdu in a parse ever so especially if you're going /Sam, leveling in ToAU, and willing to use sanction for refresh instead of increased meal duration choose RC over Fort. Axe you won't go wrong. Unless you're getting the full 3 mp/tick though I'm not sure Perdu vs RC.
