Nero 8 Patent Activation

Sorry if this has been posted and/or discussed before, I searched but couldn't find anything relevant.
I've got Nero 8 installed on my PC (pirated of course lol) and it's always worked fine for me. But I installed Vista SP1 yesterday and ever since, whenever I try to burn a DVD, Nero doesn't allow me because it says I haven't activated third party patents.
I remember getting this problem once the first time I ran Nero Vision after the installation, but I told it to "Remind me Later" and it's never bothered me since. Any ideas?

Uninstall and reinstall, and do this before you run it the first time:

1 Browse to: C:\program files\commom files\nero\shared\NL3 and delete or rename 'patentactivation.exe"

2 Now open up a run prompt, type in "services.msc"

3 Scroll down to "NMIndexingService" and disable it from running.

4 Finally, open up the task manager and kill any processes like "NMIndexing".

All this should prevent Nero from phoning home and ruining your fun If you're extra paranoid, add Nero to the firewall block list.

When I disable NMIndexing, Nero gives me a RunTime Error & won't even start. When I don't disable it but rename/delete PatentActivation.exe I get an error when I try to add an *.avi to the project. This is after uninstalling/reinstalling & following the rest of your instructions

I get the runtime error too, but only when starting the Nero Home thing. I can still run the individual programs and I haven't had any problems burning or compiling a dvd from avi files. Try rebooting and see if it runs after that if you're still having problems.

EDIT: Nero Smartstart, not Nero home. Try opening a Nero Program like Recode from the start menu after disabling the NMIndexing and see if you still get that runtime error.

You're right, I can open NeroVision manually without going through NeroSmartStart, but when I try to make a DVD, it gives me an error because it can't find PatentActivation.exe because I renamed it, even though I already disable NMIndexing...

EDIT: Figured it out. Once I uninstall, I have to manually go into my registry via regedit & delete both Ahead & Nero folders then reinstall. Works like a charm now, Thanks
