Well you said thisYou can't fake a belief, but you can rationalize someone else belief.which isn't about rationalizing someone else's belief. You made it sound as if picking what sounds the best to you would somehow make it more believable.why wouldn't you simply pick the one you wish to be true?
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Christian believes that you can simply ask for forgiveness. You have to change, and make up for the sin you committed.
You don't have to change at all, accepting jesus into your heart forgives you of your sins (except only one mentioned below)
The idea of purgatory seems to come from passages that don't seem to make much sense otherwise like praying for the dead, but what would the bible be without contradictions. There seems to be far more explicit passages that outright say it's either heaven or hell. Also, blaspheming the holy spirit is never forgivable so those that do that wouldn't even go to purgatory if it existed. Pretty sweet that that is the worst sin that anyone can commit.
