    Speak for yourself.

Personally, the ability to bring a cure-box to Campaign with me would be a bonus in my eyes. And given the popularity of solo/low-man Campaigning, I fail to see how allowing people to make use of their NPCs (preferably with NPCs gaining exp, too) would be a bad thing.

More lag? BFD. It's not like Besieged, or desirable exp camps; there are plenty of Campaign areas to go around.
Sorry, I should have have said "a lot of people don't want them in campaign."

I'm not an NPC user, so the benefits they would have in campaign are a little beyond me. Seeing as it's a solo/low-man environment, typically I'm prepared to provide for my own well-being in other ways. Since others don't have the options I do, I can see where an NPC would be useful.

Question: If your NPC was allowed in campaigns and assuming they get the same amount of xp as a player would when the campaign ends, would it level up faster or slower compared to fighting regular mobs?

I always assumed that by personality, they were referring to your NPC's chat text. There are already multiple sets of text for all NPC's lines.
Job's for fellows have always been called Combat Styles.

With the exception of the Tactics Pearl quest, NPC's get XP when the mob dies. Knowing SE, to not make it TOO easy, SE wouldnt let NPC's get tags. Your NPC Could help you in campaign, just not benefit from it.

EDIT: I changed my whole post ><

And suddenly my dream of a BRD NPC or RNG NPC has died.
O well, it did say "Some of the Adjustments"
Theres still some tiny glimmer of hope, however i wont be dissapointed if nothing about combat styles is added... though it'll be nice to see some next text

As always, SE sticks to tradition announcing the change of the most tiny superficial details that ALMOST nobody cares about (except for you few people, you know who you are.) I'm surprised they didn't announce a bigger names list to choose from when creating NPC's!

NPC in campaign would be gay because the douchy assholes soloing mobs in the middle of nowhere would go up 100x. Also I'm pretty sure they mean NPCs will change how they talk, ie their personality. I hope they dont change my Nanako because she's super cute. <3

    The Japanese says: ?????????????????????

"??" refers to voice/accent/talk, so probably new dialogue. They will have more "personality" because they will speak/talk a little differently. That's what I took it to mean.

People already complain about NPC levelers "ruining camps for low-level parties" (see: the thread after the last NPC update was announced). No matter how you slice it, people are going to bitch and moan.

The thing is, for Campaign at least, there is a sh*tload of viable areas to choose from. So the problem of someone soloing their NPC at The One Camp Where Everyone Goes From 30-33 ceases to be an issue; NPC soloers get just as much exp/AN soloing an orc in the middle of nowhere as they do soloing a yagudo in the middle of nowhere.

Not that I mean to imply that I sympathize with someone complaining about someone else taking a Campaign mob off to solo. Why would you even care?

On the other hand, if paying for a new expansion is what it takes to make them finally fix all the old stuff...well, at this point, it sounds good to me.

Because it's a worthless addition to a game that was designed to require multiple people to work together to accomplish goals? That was always my view on it, anyway. It harms more people than it benefits, just because the option is there and some people misuse it. It wasn't necessary.

Enjoy having fun with them though, glad you can solo things that you could solo anyway if you were on a different job.

The same thing could be said about the game itself.

For example, E bodies, Dalmaticas, Ridills, Maat's Caps, Kraken Clubs, etc won't help you get a decent job or a nice home, so the whole game is worthless. A lot of people think that Adventuring Fellows are fun and rewarding, some people don't.

Anyway, something that has annoyed me for a fucking long time. Yes, some people with NPCs kill other people's XP mobs but they don't need NPCs to be douche bags, I have had plenty of XP parties ruined by people skilling up, breaking latents, getting keys, or just being pricks. Hell, I can't even count the number of times I have been soloing on beastmaster pets when some anal bucket would run by see me killing the pet, kill the BST mob, then go happily on their merry ways. And the most shocking part, they didn't have NPCs with them! Holy shit! People will go out of their way to fuck someone else over with no reason whatsoever! What a revelation!

People need to stop blaming the NPCs and put the blame on the shitbaskets who ruin stuff for everyone else just because they feel like it.

Re: Adjustment and Additions to Fellows (05/15/2008)

People could maybe bitch about the NPCs when they first came out when everyone and their dog was leveling them but now the thrill is gone. The update might make them popular for a little while again but it'll die off quickly. As Sept said people can just as easily steal camps duoing, skill-ups, farming, etc. Most people who actually solo tend to be fairly decent about not camp stealing and usually have far more options as to where they can go to do said soloing. I think after you spend some time as solo job you'll find out how asshole-ish camp stealing is and usually it's the parties that screw the soloer not vice versa.

This has always struck me as the most shortsighted and lazy objection to NPCs.

Problem: You can't accomplish anything without begging others to come along, because the game is heavily group-oriented.
Solution: We'll give you a portable, reasonably intelligent NPC duo partner.
Oh, but that's worthless, because... the game is heavily group-oriented? WTF?

It harms more people than it benefits, just because the option is there and some people misuse it.
So if I understand you correctly, since NPCs exist and some people "misuse" them, the option harms more than it benefits? I guess the people who actually benefit from them just don't count?

Enjoy having fun with them though, glad you can solo things that you could solo anyway if you were on a different job.
You're right. Instead of using my NPC (which I leveled almost exclusively while doing other boring garbage like skillup/latents/coffer keys/testimonies) to allow me to solo a THF-only item (Sirocco), I should have just leveled RDM to 75 so I can solo Kreutzet. With TH0.

Re: Adjustment and Additions to Fellows (05/15/2008)

I'm happy about this announcement, too, despite my NPC being not even level 50 yet.
My fellow was helping me hunt keys in Onzozzo (I love the scorpions) and Toramarai Canal (ok, that was more like nuking the skellis, while my NPC had to cure me) and many other things from around Vana'diel (stupid eyes and their lenses). My NPC also helped me with various other spawned quest mobs (yeah, yeah, utter waste of a charge *shrug*).

I'm sure an NPC would be helpful with a variety of various quests and missions in the Past, too (like getting Gnole Claws or the damnable Quipus or distracting the Sandy mission orcs).
