This will do exactly what is happening to you, except, you obviously don't have one. <_>

Did you recently buy this car? I'm wondering if the previous owner had something already installed.

    Re: Really strange car trouble

OK, I just tried it... And now it works correctly....
I wouldn't be surprised if it does it again tomorrow though.

But it's an iPod Classic with Video (when Video first came out). So it's not a new iPod, and it doesn't have any wireless signals.

idk, I'm about ready to kill my car though.

If it did this JUST ONCE, I'd say it was a buffer system. Except for the whole, being able to change tracks thing.

What make is your cassette adapter?

They used to make CD players with something called ESP, which in very basic terms read your CD faster than it actually played, so that it wouldn't skip. If it weren't for the fact that you can change songs, it would sound plausible that you have something similar, except for cassettes (which is odd in itself, because cassettes don't usually skip).

It did it over the course of 2 back and forth trips, and multiple turning the car on and off.
I forgot the name of the maker, but I'm pretty sure most of the adapters are made by them.

My car doesn't even have a CD player... so idk, lol
It's strange for that, since it's a 2001 car. lol

    Re: Really strange car trouble

well, you said it plays really low right, even if the cassette is out...

have you tried taking it out of the car? maybe there's a speaker on the cassette you don't know about, would make a lot of sense

    Re: Really strange car trouble

Ok here's my guess. If it's an OEM stereo (the one that came with the vehicle) they typically have really shitty amplifiers. Sometimes those amplifiers are mounted in weird spots in the car: against the firewall, under the seats, in the trunk. Those types of electronics are pretty sensitive to any sort of high-frequency signal. Ever had a piece of audio gear freak out when a cell phone is about to ring? It could be the same thing happening with your system.

Maybe the amplifier/stereo is getting old and has become really sensitive, or perhaps your iPod is getting older and something that used to be shielded inside is no longer shielded or is overloaded and now transmitting a more powerful signal, which your vehicle's stereo system is picking up. Or vice-vera: your vehicles stereo which used to be shielded from RF frequencies is no longer shielded properly for whatever reason, and it's picking up the small signal the iPod is transmitting in its preamp. Perhaps both. Personally I'd believe the latter.

I would go for this more than anything else.
