I understand that, but why do we allow our state government the authority to tell us who can and who can't get married? I understand why we have drivers licenses: you can kill people if you're operating a car and don't understand how to drive or what the laws are. What's the worst that'll happen if we take away marriage licenses?

I've grew up around a lot of failed marriages. And even in the media, all we hear about are celebrity marriages which will eventually fail. I wonder how common that is. Maybe that's why people don't like marriage. Chile prohibits divorce which made things interesting.
