I rarely log on to FFXI, so if anyone asked, I wouldn't mention it.
Sometimes I'll go a week without logging on, sometimes I'll be on every day for a month straight, who knows... I just log on when I feel like for however long I feel like being on. (Usually less than 3 hours lately)
I don't know, over the last year or so I've played some really exciting video games and after having done so FFXI just feels so stale.
Actually, all MMOs do at this point.
I'm still a big time gamer though.
I spend some of my time watching anime, but most of my time is spent reading or gaming.
Occasionally I'll go out to eat, but usually I'm at home, especially since I make most of my money from home these days.
What name were you known as in aoe2?Originally Posted by Plow

I never mention the online games I play, because there are so many small little niches on the internet people are apart of, you'll rarely ever find someone that enjoys the online game as much as you do in real life. So its not so much that I'm embarrassed by it, its just that its impossible for outsiders to understand.

I was never scared to mention i played wow since it was sooo mainstream it was untrue. Alot of people kinda went "oh cool what lvl are you" just to be polite, but nearly everyone knew the idea of the game and often said they would probably love it if they had enough time.
The people that piss me off are the narrow minded fags who just assume because someone plays wow they're a geek. Theres no differnce bwteen playing wow and gta except the fact that gtas an 18 and people think its a "cool" game. Dont get me wrong, i think they;re all wiked, but i see video games as a hobby in itself, not mmo's and video games.
Oh god yes. It's hard to justify to yourself only rarely having the time to play during the weekends, only to log in and only be able to do endgame events which you don't find fun at all, and then have people get mad at you because you don't show up to some events, like you're supposed to put your social life on hold for them. The huge time investment took a backseat to my real life schedule. I've tryed a few times to get back into things, but I like being able to enjoy life without having to worry about missing friday night Dynamis.
lol fuck, mis-read
uh, I just don't bring it up. my close friends know I play, so it's cool, one friend was always wierd about it. But whatever
I get around this by being just incompetent enough at events that I won't be missed if I don't log on, but not so incompetent that I get kicked.Originally Posted by Kuya
As for the question, I talk about the things I do which are fun and might actually prolong a conversation for more than thirty seconds. Music, books, art, film, not a niche game which is pretty bloody incomprehensible unless you've actually played it.
Hah. This is one of the reasons stopping me from playing again. I managed to get to the point where I realised I was ruining my social life by playing FFXI too much. Especially in first year of uni when I was meant to be out making new friends. I eventually made a rule for myself where if I was ever invited out or round to someones flat, I would not choose to sit in and play FFXI instead. No exceptions. Of course, this caused problems in FFXI cause halfway through an event I'd suddenly announce, "Uh, gotta go. Sorry!".Originally Posted by Kuya
I just say I read and play WoW. No one I talk to even knows about FFXI so I just stopped mentioning it
I really do not care if people know what games I play however I play a ton of different games equally so I just say Video games, among many other hobbies I have.
I like saying video games because apparently nobody expects me to be a gamer and I enjoy the reactions. I don't see any reason to be embarrassed of it, but I don't go in to detail unless someone specifically asks me.

if you played DM you prob knew who I was if not I doubt it, unless you frequented MFO. Probably heard of the clan though at least, it was very small but completely dominant.
I haven't played FFXI or WoW for over a year now but even when I did I never really mentioned it to anyone. I don't even really put Video games down as one of my hobbies and never did, as I usually had too many other things down that would rank of ahead of it anyway. It's not that I was really embarrassed by it or anything, it's just I don't really enjoy talking about video games when I'm out and about or whatever.
haha, Yea I've heard of you but I was an RM player, Iffaca.Originally Posted by Plow
I don't talk to people. It has nothing to do with the game, I've just never gone out of my way to talk to people when I don't know them.
Unless theyre gamers (and a lot of them are, an overwhelming majority) I don't mention it, like alleya said it's' just easier/more entertaining to talk about anything else (as long as it isnt myself >_>). I'll mention video games in a passing manner but usually go right back to crap about work or give the generic bullshit answers so I can go back to asking about them, which is much more worth the time. Since I actually keep up with so little but have a passing knowledge in most shit it's a lot easier to bring up some obscure fact as if I actually care about what they're talking about.
If they ask what video games I first mention smash (because most people have heard of it) then i'll say "some online stuff".
There's been no less than 6 times someone's personally recognized me by my online moniker alone -_- including one where a friend called me Ryko in public and it caught someone else's ear and they started asking shit about whether or not they heard right. When I said they did they definitely started acting as if I should have remembered them from PSO 9 freaking years ago.

I don't mind telling people that I play a MMORPG, it is pretty well known a lot of college kids play them. Nothing to be ashamed about. I just make sure that I keep it in check and not play too much, only time I really play now is between my summer school classes and training for my upcoming marathon.
In my free time I usually just run or lift at the gym.
Relaxing at home I'll watch sports (but not for too much longer because I can't stand watching baseball and hockey season is almost over). Occasionally I'll play a game or 2 on Wii, but not very often.
Most of the time I just go out to clubs/bars drink and have fun when I'm not busy with school... 1 more final on Monday then 4 months off yay!
