all the people who know what an MMO is knows that i play FFXI.

Even if they play MMOs but a different one from you, it generally turns into a "well in my game we do it this way" discussion, which is almost as fucking boring as trying to explain what an MMO is.

I never got into Homestarrunner much, I watched a few early on when it came out, but I was in high school and actually had a social life at the time so I only watched it when my girlfriend had been doing so when I came over to her house.

I tell people "I play FF11 online" , I am confident about it, I don't find playing MMOs a shameful thing at all. If people think I am lesser than them for playing MMOs, then it's their problem not mine .

I would rather be the guy that helps change the image of a typical MMO'er , as in not someone who is truck sized and lives in their mother's basement and gives snide looks to people who pronounce star wars terminology wrong.

If anything it's been more helpful than detrimental, because then people see me as that guy who likes odd stuff, so I get talked to about other "odd stuff", in a sense it makes people put down their guard when talking to me, since I do something that's considered judgmental yet I don't care.

I haven't played FFXI or any MMO in a while, but when I did I wasn't shy about talking about it. Usually though I just said I play games (then get really specific in saying videogames when they think I like playing monopoly or something) because even while I played FFXI, I played a lot of other games as well (how the hell else do you level PUP?) so it made sense to tell them the broad spectrum of things rather than specifics.

But if you ever wondered why people think that people who play MMOs are sad, then you haven't seen the stereotype that Wafik posted about. There are about 4-5 people who sit opposite me in class who play WoW and the way they talk about it really makes me hate them (actually, the frequency of which they talk about it makes me hate them). One of the girls who plays with that group wrote a fanfic about it, and in her fanfic she wasn't even a central character, she was a minor side character (obvious self-esteem issues and she's a depressive). That made me laugh so hard I started crying.

Well, I usually say video games because like many people say. I play more games than just FFXI. I don't care if i'm called a nerd/dork w/e cuz i'm damn proud of it. It's a fun hobby, it's a good past-time to me than just wasting money at the bars to give you your temporary status ailment that MAY kill you if you overdo it ;p
