Terrain abuse

To get to the point, I kite King Vinegarroon around these 2 pole like cactus things and I can get him stuck to where he will go back and forth to one side after another simply by walking 3-5 steps one way, and then back to get him stuck on one side. It works very well with gravity and works even without allowing me to kite him very easily. Only draw in which rarely happens causes any problems and even then I have shadows and can simply get him stuck again no problem. All I have to do is walk back and forth between two spots to get him stuck on the other side of the cactus.

Black dot = KV
Purple dot = me
Red dot = Cactus pole
Cyan arrow is the way he goes and I go to my arrow and he starts going back the other way and so on, same for the green arrow.

I don't have any problems with myself doing this, my shell doesn't care and they think it's funny to watch him dance BUT spectators complain and cry GM blah blah blah. This isn't terrain abuse correct? Terrain abuse would be the wall of justice in sea yeah?

Terrain abuse is if you're standing in a spot where the monster cannot reach you for some reason. Wall of Justice was terrain abuse because it was physically impossible for AV to reach the people on the other side, no matter what they or it did. At every point during your kite, you are standing in a spot where, if you were to stop moving, KV could reach you.

So yeah, those spectators should get over it, and should probably take notes. Knowing how to take advantage of awkward pathing around terrain is a fundamnetal skill for solo and low-man.

We can all say what we think terrain abuse means, but the bottom line is that whether or not what you're doing is abuse depends on how stupid the GM you get is.

I actually got GM'd for holding KV like this recently while we had people get on/gather. Wierd thing was i didn't hear from GM until following morning. I logged in and was locked outta game, had to do POL GM chat etc, then he let me in and talked to me in jail.

The GM said that there is nothing wrong with this and he found me "not guilty" as it is a commonly used tactic on this particular NM where the spawn timer can be so outrageous. All it does is allow you to get people there. Mind you, i held it for nearly 2.5 hours (which isnt too long) and still nothing happened.

Yeah, I've seen people jailed for less questionable kiting/terrain stuff than this. Most likely GMs are not going to care, but there's always a small chance they get some idiot that jails you.

Stupid GMs can suspend you for this. I don't think anyone here will tell you that what you're doing was wrong, though. Long story short, your competition was just butthurt.

You're not hacking. You're not botting. You're manipulating your stance to keep you safe from an NM by using the terrain as an advantage. There's nothing to bitch about. What you're doing is perfectly fine.

We had a GM jail someone in our linkshell before for doing exactly what you are doing. I know someone has posted pictures of that before in similar threads to this one.

I guess it depends on which GM gets called and their "judgement"
