I'm just clearing up the fact that the whole back and forth by his family being threatened was all for naught.

A friend of mine was in the bleacher creatures last night, (guys with tux on which you'll never see again); Apparently in extra innings they started up a "Hit it to Uggla!" chant, which had me rolling.

Not gonna believe it until someone other than a blogger picks up on the story. A bunch of reporters were on the radio yesterday saying no one had been in contact with Barry Bonds at all.

Yea forgot to add that in, I guess it was the rush getting the best of me.

His agent is claiming collusion so the hands might be forced.

Well the fact that Borris is offering Bonds at a Minimum Salary (plus incentives) means the Yankee's have very little to lose over this on a short term deal. Can't stand Bonds as a person, but he's still a productive hitter. Could be win win for both sides so long as bonds at least attempts to keep his ego in check and his mouth shut.

With Matsui likely done for the season, they needed a right handed bat that can hit lefties. Sexson is hitting .340 on the season against lefties.

On top of that, they gave up nothing to sign him, and he cost a near-league-minimum $340,000. That's pretty much a free bat, so it's not as big of an issue as people are making it out to be.

I'd much rather see Bonds in New York than Richie "I CAN'T HIT A BALL" Sexson.

So yeah. They're basically paying for a batter against lefties. He's 21-61, 5HR, batting .344, and has a .423 OBP against lefties.

On the other hand, he's 34-191, 6HR, batting .178 with a .281 OBP against righties.

Clearly it's a part time deal then, lol... because that's so fucking bad.

Well duh. He's not going to hit righties. Ever.

He'll come off the bench against lefty relievers and start against lefty starters. Giambi will sit against them since he's has a pretty terrible avg against lefties this year.

This move just solidified The yankee's spot in the post season!

not really. It'll at least might give some interesting headlines for the NY writers for the next few days or when he goes 0-4 with 3 strikeouts for the first time. He'll then fade back into Oblivion along with Bubba crosby, Aaron Guiel, Craig wilson, Jose Conseco etc. etc.

Interested to see how hard Sexson gets booed after he strikes out three times in the same game against lefties.

It's really...shitty that Bonds, one of the hundreds of known steroid users in the game, and the best hitter in some categories among them, still isn't on a team. It's completely fucked up that a media witchhunt is basically preventing him from being employed at the skill he is not only best at, but one of the best in the world at.

And that's all it is. Bonds is a cocky asshole - and I guarantee you that 100% of MLB teams have cocky assholes on them. Bonds used steroids, as has at least one player on 100% of MLB teams. What 100% of teams don't have is the guy with an OBP 73 points higher than anyone else in MLB last year.

The fact that he isn't DHing somewhere, at least, is a fucking travesty. Teams aren't doing everything they can to win. He is blackballed, and an organization with an anti-trust exemption from the U.S. government shouldn't be allowed to blackball people.

    It's disgusting.

I agree 110%. Sure, Bonds allegedly did steroids, but people are forgetting that a lot of other players during our time (possibly pitchers too) did them as well, so it was a semi-level playing field while he went nuts on those baseballs. What the media is doing, along with the teams around the MLB is really despicable.

If Bonds was a nicer person to the media and everyone loved him, and then the charges of steroids hit him and such, he'd still get hired at least for a half year, or even forgiven like Giambi. The fact that a team would rather go with a 1-dimensional player over Bonds who is an OBP machine is ridiculous.

    Funny.

He's making 390K prorated. Which boils down to the Yanks paying him BELOW league average salary (under 200K) So they really have nothing to lose and it was strictly for the LHP woes. He's not gonna wow the fuck out of everyone, but it can't hurt, especially when they were trotting out Melky and a Sexson clone with crappier defense and bat in Betemit.

I loathe Bonds, but we need a DH and as long as it wins games I could give two fucks.

Bonds - ARod - Giambi, that's about 45% of your pitch count in three batters.

Billy Beane continues his attempt to have zero pitchers on his roster. Joe Blanton to the Phillies for... I haven't seen the other end of the trade yet.

EDIT: Source was a sports flash on WEEI radio, not sure what their source was

That's a good move for the Phillies, their bullpen and lineup have been solid they really just needed starting pitching. They should really pull away from the Mets if they can get their rotation in order now. Blanton isn't exactly having a good year but.. the phillies can't keep throwing Happ out there.

And yeah I don't get it. The As are 7 games over and well in the wild card race.. why mortgage the farm?
