If it were any other team, I'd probably be pissed. Let's face it, it's hard not to be happy for the Rays after all this time. Carl Crawford and Scott Kazmir (I'm convinced he's still hurt) especially deserve this after their collective 11 years of Rays service.

Seriously...sucks Phillies are about to get caught in the path of an incoming freight train two years in a row. Rockies last year with them sweeping the NL side, and now about to be the Rays who are playing unbeatable baseball. With the impending series ahead of us, who here thinks the Phillies even have a chance, and if so...how exactly? About the only thing I can think of is all of our hot hitters being on in that one series. Imagine a Phillies team where Rollins, Utley, Burrell, Howard, Werth and Victorino are all on their game. That or Myers needs to go 3 of 3 again.

It's simple meyers and hamels cant pitch every night, rays should have no trouble taking the series this year.

If history tells us anything, we'll be back here for game 7 after a few more excrutiating nights. Though it'd be pretty ironic that Boston, who battled back from 0-3 against New York, who battled back from 1-3 against Cleveland, couldn't pull the same thing off against .... the Rays, of all people.

That said, all credit to the Rays, they took it to them; I just wish Beckett was health, and Ortiz was healthy, and Lowell was healthy, and Drew (probably) was healthy, and Lugo was healthy (well, probably not), and we had a reliever that could throw for a damn other than Papelbon....

I think I know what he's doing. He's thinking ahead. If the Red Sox were to finally get to his pitching staff, he'd rather have Big Game James Shields pitching at home than on the road. That and I don't think Shields has had good numbers in Fenway. That's my logic behind his reason.

This is all I can come up with too. It just seems like such a defeatist attitude to bring to a team that's up 3-1.

Well I don't know about a defeatist attitude really. I actually think it's smart. You should always be prepared, especially when you've never been in this situation before. That and if they were to lose because of Kazmir tonight, they'd have two chances to win at home, which would be cool. I think Joe Madden is smarter than we think.

knowing the last couple of playoff series where the sox were down, maybe he is thinking of a possible game 7 and would rather have shields pitch that game? Wouldnt be enough rest to throw Dice-K during a game 7 anyways......


But if the Sox can't hit off the rays pitching staff, and the rays can/have been raping the sox pitching staff. I'd save shields for a possible game 7 and just throw any starter, or hell... just give him a few extra days of rest for the world series.
