Votto has been a nice surprise. Volquez has been insane, and now Bruce. It's a shame Dusty Baker doesn't know how to manage young talent very well. :/ (See Kerry Wood and Mark Prior) Cueto has been taxed and really needs to work on his change-up. Volquez will hit a rough patch soon most likely as all young pitchers do and the fact that he threw 100+ pitches in like.. 5 of his last 6 starts doesn't help. :/ Hope we don't get another Kerry Wood breakdown.

Bailey is an interesting one. It was nice for a bit, and then all of a sudden.. nothing.

Votto was a monster in the minors. The decision to sign Baker was puzzling, I wouldn't let him get near Bailey, much less Cueto and Volquez. I hope they pull a rabbit out of their ass and have a good year Griffey

Joba Chamberlain gets his first start tomorrow... should be a pretty big buzz in the bronx. I'll be interested to see how he fares once his pitch count goes up. He's matched up against Halliday too.. might be rough

I love the Braves and Chipper, and as much as I hope it happens, it won't. =[ I'm just surprised he hasn't gone on the DL yet honestly.

I've been a gigantic chipper fan since I was really little. Farm League, Little League, some of my friends were apart of one of the world series teams actually, and I've always worn the #10 in sports. I can't even remember how many years now I've been watching and following him, I have so much memorabilia and autographs from him - have been working on getting a game used bat for years.... Now it's gonna be pricey. My brother collects bats of 3000hit club members so he's been looking for a good deal for me to start my collection. Bring on the 500 club.

It's his year, he's got a great lifetime BA as it is, he should be a shoe-in for HoF. His average will drop soon for sure, but have you seen the names he's been put with stats wise from this season? 400+ BA through first 50 games alone is an insane stat, all of which in the past 30years with that stat have won batting title for that season, here's hoping. He's prone to injury, I really hope he can stay healthy.

Well yeah. Chipper's a shoe-in HoF'er and I wasn't arguing that at all. I was just saying I don't see him finishing with a .400+ at bat because that's nearly impossible now with all the specialty pitchers out there. Anyway, that's cool about your fandom of him. Chipper's so awesome.

It seems like every day Chase Utley needs to remind me why he's my favorite player. Being a Phillies fan, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but wow, Utley is having an unreal season. Even in my most optimistic dreaming I didn't think he'd be putting up these kinds of numbers.

David Ortiz's wrist injury is pretty serious. He's going to be out at least a month, and will in all liklihood need surgery. Remember Schilling's bloody sock injury from 2004? Ortiz basically has the same tendon sheath injury in his wrist. I expect Brandon Moss to get called up again tomorrow when Justin Masterson gets sent back down to Pawtucket.

Speaking of Masterson, he's a big reason why tonight is going to be exciting from a pitching standpoint. For those that haven't seen Masterson yet, he's got some filthy stuff. 2-0 so far in his first two big league appearances, but until he gets a solid changeup he will struggle deeper in games. Also tonight, Joba makes his first start, and Pedro comes back for the Mets. All three of these starts should be fun to watch.

Not that players like Youk And Lowell can't produce but (speaking as a yankee fan) no one can replace Ortiz's clutch numbers especially in October. But whoever comes in to replace him will probably do fine, as he should get plenty of fastballs with Manny in the on-deck circle.

Anyway, Yanks went back under 500 again last night but I expect them to start moving up this month. Posada comes back soon, they have a really weak schedule (play toronto and kansas city, then interleague games vs the padres astros and reds) and I expect them to start making some trades for relief/bench help.

Rumor has it that the Red Sox are going to call up Chris Carter either today or tomorrow. He was the return they got for Wily Mo Pena. I saw him in spring training this year, and about half a dozen times at AAA. He's got some big time power, but can't field to save his life. I guess Manny won't become the DH >_<

Uh... huh? Besides Toronto's lack of hitting sometimes, their pitching is dominant. I guess if you want to go into that series with the thought that they are weak when they have Marcum, Halladay, and such... then be my guest, lol.

They've been doing well but it doesn't mean they aren't a weak team. Their hitters don't scare me. Halliday has like 5 complete games and I think he's lost 3 of them. Their pitching is great all around but so is the Yankee offense. They beat Halladay already on opening day, and their offense has been clicking recently. They may not be a typical "weak" team, but as a Yankee fan I'd rather be playing them than anyone else in the east right now.

I doubt Joba will go 5 even. Even if he's pitching a perfect game they'll pull him. Toronto reads the papers, they know Joba's on a very limited pitchcount and that he's a strikout pitcher. they'd be fools not to take a strike (hell, even 2) to get him out of the game and take their chances with the Yankee bullpen.

Dunno what Orioles' team you've been following them, but if I had to play a team in the AL East, it'd be them. They are struggling after losing 3/4 to the Red Sox. Their pitching is no where near as scary, and you beat Halladay before he really got in his groove.

Also, only reason Halladay has three of those losses is because the offense behind him didn't give him jack for run support. Hope they do tonight.
