Well I am disappointed to say the least. I really had hoped the Rays could at least drag it out another game. They needed to show up and play in Philly, and unfortunately, they really didn't play their best. All their hitters were in a slump and their pitching could have been better, as well. So my congrats to the Phillies.

I'm actually quite impressed that the Rays got this far, they showed a lot of improvement this year. I'm hoping with a bit more maturity and experience they'll be able to become an even more powerful force in baseball.

I was right there when the guys climbed the poles and took the flags off, then proceeded to be arrested by police ahah. It was a crazy night.

Really wish I wasn't up at school. Rutgers is all Mets/Yankees country, I only saw one car outside honking last night

Leaving tonight to head to the parade tomorrow though! It's going to be pande-fucking-monium.

It's freaking insane out there. There are easily a thousand people gathering in cityhall since 8:30. Working at 15& market, I really can't help but look out of the window constantly. Thank god our firm's "lenient" about the whole championship celebration thing and gives everyone a 2-hour lunch today. If any of you are going to the parade, I will be seeing you guys out there.

Why does winning a championship provoke people to break shit and flip cars? random doping of meth into the air?

NY never had anything of the sort during the late 90's (not that I recall) neither did Boston; I remember Lansing going apeshit after the Piston's title.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that it's been 28 years since the last world series championship and 15 years since the last sports championship. It's long time coming.

Nuhah! We won the Arena Bowl last year bitches!

    j/k...

Actually I thought last championship was 1983 (Sixers), therefore it would be 25 years.

The best thing about this season is the Rays get the second worst 1st round pick, instead of the top pick they get almost every year

Now that the World Series is over, when do they hand out the end of year awards? Is it November or do they wait till January to hand them out. Any end of season predictions on who gets what?

I wasn't even talking about that.

So, by this logic, when Cleveland wins a title in something, the sky will rain with blood, the sun will be eclipsed for days, and locusts will descend upon the land? Looting, raping and pillaging will occur for weeks on end but it will be OK because "It's been a long time since we won a title."

In addition to Cleveland, Buffalo, Seattle, San Diego also have longer No-Title streaks than Philadelphia did as far as multi-sport cities go. There might be others -- i.e. Milwaukee if you don't count Green Bay.

None of those cities you named have a team in each major sport like Philadelphia does. They had the longest drought of the cities with a grand slam.

Minneapolis and Washington are tied for the crown now; the Twins and Redskins last won in 1991.

That whole parade/ceremony lasted over 5 hours. My favorite part was when Utley yelled "World fucking Champions" on live TV at the top of his lungs.

I guess when you have to wait 25 years for a parade you don't want it to end.

It's gotta suck nuts for Phillies fans that Gillick is gonna wind up leaving. Hopefully the Yanks bring him back as a consultant or some shit, dude is a damn genius.

    Anyhow, back to Philly crazies.

    http://sticksoffire.com/2008/10/27/w...ir-newspapers/

Philly Fans are the worst. Everyone outside of Philadelphia knows that. But those who live in the city don’t believe it, or won’t admit it. Why?

Because the newspapers up there don’t ever talk about it. Check the Notes on the Rays, where they quote Maddon about Philly fans behavior:

The Rays manager is a native of Hazleton, Luzerne County, and he has family members at the World Series. Maddon had one complaint about some fans.

“Throwing mustard packs at my granddaughter is not very cool,” he said. “If you want to have arguments about [beer], I’m good with that, but leave the families alone.”
    Some message board:

The girl said "F$@# YOU Rays Fan!" and the mother and father applauded her for what she said.

    Stay Classy Philadelphia...
Then there's the whole taunting of Joe Jurevicius about the death of his infant son and the cheering by Eagles' fans as Irvin got carted off the field.
