The Braves are a good team, they just happened to play the best team in all of baseball when they are on a roll. People are going to start to see just how good this Phillies team is. They have the best bullpen in baseball, they have arguably the best bench and the back end of their rotation is starting to pitch like top of the rotation guys.

And they still have the best player in baseball 8)

Did you see the possible stats he would have if he didn't get injured? They are saying he'd be 700+ already. Good for him though, I think hes maybe 38yrs old so he's got some left in him as well. I've always liked griffey, you dont hear anything bad about the guy like you do with everyone else.

If the Yanks hold on tonight (3-1 lead in the 9th) every team in the AL east will have a record over .500... havent seen that in a long time. Best division in baseball? Probably...

I was at the Sox vs. Orioles game tonight. I've never been so miserable in my life. Beckett pitches poorly, Sox mount multiple comebacks, Orioles win by capitalizing on Sox weak bullpen. Between the 100+ degree heat, seats in the sun, and the game starting at 6:00 instead of 7:00 (basically left me with about 2:30 of the sun kicking my ass), I've never been as hot as I was today. At least it was cool to see Eddie Murray hand Manny Ramirez a plaque to commemorate his 500th HR, and then to see Manny pass Murray on the all-time HR list.

With 'Tek being hit by strep throat, Manny's hammy keeping him from playing full games, and Ortiz' wrist the Sox interleague lineup in NL parks is going to be painful to watch for the next 5 games.

Well.. look at it this way. Volquez has given up 3 runs or less in all his starts. He's bound to blow up sometime, right? I bet the Sox get to him today.

Yankee fans everywhere want to thank ken griffey jr for swinging at a 3-0 pitch with the tying run on 3rd and one out, and grounding into a double play to hand the red sox another win. what a waste.

EDIT: nevermind, lol blown save for papelbon, ouch!

I didn't see it, but unless the pitcher threw 7 straight balls, I don't see how Griffey wouldn't have the green light on 3-0.

Eh, got home from work to catch the top of the 10th.

Did Volquez fuck up, or did the bullpen?

Glad I went to the Harang show now.

Volquez was good. He went 7 IP and gave up 3 ER iirc. He had some struggles in the first couple of innings with wild pitches, but he settled down. Then Dusty Baker forgot how to manage a bullpen at home, and left Lincoln out for his 2nd inning in the 10th, and, well... you know what happened.

God it sucks for st. louis. Wainwright, then Pujols, and now Molina are out. (Mulder and Carpenter have been out also). Yet they are still in the mix with the cubs although that might change soon. Look for them to sneak back up thought when they all come back.

Wang (mid-foot sprain of the Lisfranc ligament and partial tear of the peroneal longus tendon of the right foot) may be lost for the remainder of the season, the Yankees' official site reports.

Spin: Wang will be on crutches and wear a protective boot for at least six weeks and doesn't figure to be walking freely until almost early August. Beyond that, he'd likely require weeks of rehab to get his arm back in shape. At this point, about the most positive word we've heard is that "there's a chance" Wang can pitch again this season, according to GM Brian Cashman.

    Re: MLB '08 Season Discussion

Yeah, its unfortunate considering the Yankees were coming off a great road trip (5-1) and the whole team seemed to be clicking. They were winning close games and blowouts, and got some quality outings from the bullpen. This certainly isn't a welcome turn of events, but I think the Yanks can overcome it. Wang only pitches once every 5 days, and I fully expect Brian Cashman to go after Bronson Arroyo type to anchor the starting staff. The Yanks schedule is favorable, while the Red Sox play the Philies and the Rays play the Cubs, they could easily close within a few games of those teams. Could be a fun 3-team race down the stretch.

And wow, Ryan Howard single handedly destroying the Red Sox today. 2 HRs and just hit a triple. Phillies certainly look like a good team this year.
