Help me buy a new car.

BMW has released the 1 series which start out around 30kish for the base model, up to 40k for a fully loaded 135i. Same engine as the 335i (twin turbo inline 6), but in a smaller coupe form. Even the base model 128i comes with a decent I6 with about 230hp.

That's a rebadged Subaru Impreza wagon (up to 2007 model anyway), I think Saab stopped selling them though.

There's all sorts of stuff I can do with that money, but they'd be no better than a new car!

I just bought a new laptop, my desktop is only a year old, all my furniture is new and up to date, I have an HDTV and other fun stuff. I have no other debt besides my mortgage and making extra payments to that could help, but is no fun. I even just got all new tires for my Altima, and had the brake pads replaced, as well as the alignment fixed.

So there isn't really a whole lot else I can do with it for fun, although I suppose a more prudent thing would be to just invest what my car payments would be each month and keep the Altima, but again... the point of that is to have money later to spend it, so why not spend it now? I already have a 401k and such for retirement that I contribute to, and it'll only take me maybe 2-3 years to pay the car off, anyway (but I still want a 5 year term for some wiggle room).

As for gas, that's really not a concern. I live 3 miles from where I work, and I don't even have to get on the freeway. The traffic isn't bad, either. I fill up maybe once a month. Although I would still want something that's at least 20+ city/30+ highway.

I understand what you're saying and if you're in that kinda position then go for it;0 but thats some bad logic to justify it.

The reason to invest is because $1 put away today is $2 in 8yrs. Thus being conservative eariler in your life lets you have significantly more buying power in the later portions. Thus "Spending it now because I'm gonna spend it anyways" is a very fiscally destructive attitude that should be avoided ;0

I'm not sure about all of em, but I can't imagine any of hte cars posted so far get more than ~25 mpg highway, except maybe the Miata. This might be a better idea in that case:

If you really want a convertible and you're replacing a sedan, as long as you're into the looks I'd recommend a Sebring.

Pretty much the roomiest reasonable convertible with the biggest trunk as well. And they're awfully nice in general, with the fully loaded limited version costing damn near exactly what you're looking to spend.

I did see a nice 2005 Mercedes CLK for $35k, but I think what I might do is save up until winter. Not only might I get a better deal, the 2009's will be out, and I'll have more money for a down payment (including christmas bonus, salary adjustment, and if I want until after the new year, about $3000 back in taxes).

I just wish I could find a used car that is fully loaded (and I mean, with built in GPS, etc.)

Great car. I know people are anti-american, but saturn has done some great things recently with their vehicles. And the redline is also very very nice with a good bit of HP. You can also go with the solstice, same thing just GM instead, more rounded.

I reeeeally think you'd be very very happy with a Sebring man, if you don't like the looks of the brand new ones find like an 05 or 06, I think they were still the nice curvy shape then, the limiteds have everything you're looking for, gps, full leather, great stereo (infinity like 13 speaker), even the retractable hard top ones have room for 2 golf bags+ more in the trunk, they get right about 20c/30h, they're roomy as hell, and they're not about being an m3 or whatever, they're just smooth.

I seen one of those SMART cars on the way to toys r us today. weirdest fucking car ever. it's sooooo god damned small. I seen it and said "what the fuck is that thing" and got behind it at a stoplight and seen it said SMART. The size blew me away. Apparently you can park them sideways into a parking spot lol.
