BLM spellcasting and equipment swaping.

Now I know INT is used to calculate base damage. MAB is used to determine potency. Where I can't get a good answer on things is where do these come into play. Is it at the start of the spell casting? Is it right as the spell being cast?

Just hit the 50's on my BLM and with AM and such with such long cast times I was wondering how I should start going about setting up macros.
