I couldn't agree more. Not that these are crappy additions at all, but it's kind of like... why are they putting stuff like this in the forefront? Sure, they may be beneficial, but they are hardly newsworthy, maybe as tag ins in the actually update notes. To me it's sort of like, USA Today putting "Cat stuck in tree... again!" instead of "Earthquake strikes Myanmar!" The importance levels are skewed.

These updates have huge impacts on a lot of players. Einherjar has an impact on far fewer than this stuff so the einherjar fix that people want is probably lower priority.

I just find this so funny because I remember a time when they announced changes to ToA areas and instantly there was 10 pages or more of "Waa waaa why are they fixing new stuff when the old stuff is still broken, they should fix the old content before paying attention to the new."

I guess such is the nature of these forums and life, no matter what people are not going to be happy. Personally I agree with Septimus, people set themselves up way too much with unrealistic expectations. These update notes are not the big ones they are just teasers the big stuff comes much closer to the update and I welcome the small changes they have announced so far.

I remember that too. But you are mistaking it for people on forums never being happy, vs in reality, SE picks the wrong things to pay attention to 9 out of 10 times. Then when we get to directly ask them stuff, they just avoid answering. They treat their playerbase as if we were asking for the nuclear launch codes. How the hell they don't have their OWN forum, where there is communication, a back and forth with them, a place officially to post ideas, suggestions, and feel as if they company is LISTENING to you while taking your MONEY, is beyond understanding.

But, surely old stuff constitutes more than a nomad moogle here and there. (And what I'm referring to by old stuff is like, a shoddy King's system, that's gone unfixed)

For many it is a waa, waa matter. But, this sort of news just seems out place. I still say it belongs in the subtext of the final update notes. I mean there were changes of equal or more importance than these in the last patch notes, that didn't even make the main page.

I suppose SE has developed a trend of saving the best for last, but maybe they could mix it up a little? I dunno.

Oh well, that being said. Maybe something big is coming up.

Re: Preview of Adjustments for June Version Update (Part 2)

The reason these adjustment posts have been deemed newsworthy is most likely because each and every item announced has been a player request at one point or another. The idea is that this is OUR update with OUR ideas and those are the adjustments that are being highlighted. So what if not every adjustment applies to the player who's been around for 6 years and has 20 level 75 jobs? SE has to look after the newcomers as well as the veterans. Not to mention that the previews aren't the end-all be-all of what is to be added come patch day.

I for one am excited that outposts will be saved along with rank and conquest points. I've been playing for four years yet haven't been able to enjoy the San d'Orian or Bastokan storyline because I didn't want to lose my outposts. Could they have done this sooner? Sure. Does the fact that they are adding it now instead of at the start of the game mean I'm going to enjoy it any less? Of course not. Instead of getting ~4 new missions this patch now I'm getting ~24 new missions and the 678k gil payout will be pretty nice too in today's economy.

Re: Preview of Adjustments for June Version Update (Part 2)

They're just giving more update details than usually, but there's less content most of the time. At least it feels like it. We're getting a update detail every other day now, I do think it's more than what it was before

I know once the update comes, and we get the content people want, it's going to end up being "too little, too late"

I'm not, not everyone is going to like every change, but you are acting like, "Oh I wont use this, I don't even know why they added it, Damn you SE breaking the game!!" When players have been asking for Moogles there since the damn dawn of time.

Furthermore on this same page people are saying that this update isn't even worth mentioning because the changes are so minimal. Which is it? Gamebreaking or Meh?
It's meh for old players because it isn't as useful to us now.

It's potentially damaging to new players who won't get the same experience that has hooked many of us for years to come.

It is VERY important the impact the game makes on new players. Such a delicate balance. A few off things could make them give up. By setting them small challenges early on like having to walk back home, it not only opens their eyes to the scale of the world but teaches them the patience FFXI will no doubt require.
I found an article from a professional about what I was trying to explain. It relates to WoW but applies to all MMOs imo:

    http://darklondon.wordpress.com/2007...tions-in-mmos/
Holy shit that screenshot is fucked up. How the hell do people PLAY like that?
You missed the fact that they guy was trying to convey how after a while you no longer play, experience and and enjoy the game; that you only look for means to mete out the grind in the most streamlined way possible (meaning adding shit onto ur game) without enjoying it day-by-day. I totally agree with the guy, since I've been going through the semi-"I want to quit" phase of the game for myself. No longer enjoyable to log on to endless tasks, runs, and events.

Majority doesnt use the additional plugins that come with it, though. Majority of JP's play on consoles, add in the xbox and ps users in the world and it's actually large % of the games population
    This.

I read statistics a while back in an article that said about 50% of the worldwide playerbase plays on PS2 (most Japanese people do). When you add in the Xbox 360 and the PC players who don't use Windower (which is more than you think - yes, 99% of end-game PC players use Windower but almost all of the players who AREN'T 75 or end-game yet don't), you'd see that not nearly as many people use it as you think.

From an end-game perspective, you'd look around your linkshell and other linkshells and see that 90%+ of people use Windower, but that data is SEVERELY skewed. Remember that less than 50% of the players even have a 75 job.

And surely you are quoting this out of context because in my post I also state it is stupid to complain about these update notes like it is the only thing that is going to happen. Everyone is crying over it so much like this is the last update notice and the version update in June will only have these few small things. This happens every single update for some reason in between updates they completely fail to remember how SE announces the updates. This time is no different from all the others.

This will probably be just a small portion of a rather large update and they save all the biggest things for last and don't announce them till shortly before the update actually happens. So yes old stuff does constitute more than moogles but it is still retarded to complain so much for the sake of complaining which is what people are doing when their complaining contradicts itself from thread to thread.

Maybe because they actually read some FFXI forums? Would you really want to sift through the massive amounts of complete fucking idiocy that gets dribbled onto internet forums by the hordes of 15-year olds who can barely complete a functioning sentence in any language if you were S-E? I would go batshit insane if I was the lowbie customer service drone who got stuck having to read through 2 million 'HAI GUYZ I THINK U SHUD MAEK A QUEST FOR RIDILL B/C TOO MANY BOTTTER LOLZ KTHXBAI' posts and murder everyone at the company.

I was under the impression most end-game PC users had gotten into the habit of pressing "CTRL-I, +, enter, escape" regularly to sort items but then again I also learned the other day that some people don't know where all their macros are on their 75 jobs.

If this is the first update in a "fixing little problems the game has had for a while" spree of updates then its very welcome.

oh ok, I hear ya. I've got my fingers crossed expecting something semi-epic, sort of like March.
