Hearing that Tomahawk affects magic resistances interests the hell out of me.
What mobs off hand would this come in handy at specifically?
I don't mage at all, so use big words and colorful pictures if necessary.

Chariots also have some form of damage % taken -. When our kclub DRK tried a souleater zerg, despite having a fanatic's drink on she was taking a lot of damage due to damage inflicted not being equal to damage restored, although I couldn't tell you the exact ratio.
As noted above, Jailer of Temperance as well.Originally Posted by Xanthe

I think that's just a Souleater nerf, tbh. Or all dark magic (Drain, Aspir(lol), Stun).Originally Posted by Stromgarde

Figured Wyrms, Chariots is handy to know though.
Though, that is actually a good reason to unlock/cap it now.
The physical side is like "yay, melee resistant mobs, now with marginally less suck."
Being able to tell a Blm party "Ok, Tomahawk's up, have fun." Is a whole different story.
In regards to Angon, it will also have no effect if a mob already has a stronger defense % up effect on. This is easily seen on JoJ when it uses its defense boost move. Chariots must have an innate defense boost trait of some sort, as Angon was having no effect on LAC for me the other night. Though defense % up and damage % taken minus are two different traits.Originally Posted by Stromgarde
That's not necessarily true though. When a crawler uses Cocoon it's a +100% defense bonus, but Angon will still overwrite it, as will Acid Bolts. The same also applies to a Crab's Scissor Guard and a Zdei's Reactor Cool, etc. A Defense Bonus trait would have no effect on Angon landing, otherwise Angon would never land on any PLD-type mob. Did you have a BLU using Frightful Roar in either of those cases? Angon will not overwrite that effect.Originally Posted by Mabubeezareel

No, definitely no BLU for us against LAC or JoJ. It's been awhile since I've fought JoJ, and I can't recall whether or not the chat log says that it wears off when it uses its defense boost or not, but I definitely know that if it already has it up then Angon will display as having no effect in the log. LAC always showed as having no effect for me, even when used right as we engaged. Could just be that chariots are simply immune to it. Does Frightful Roar have any effect on them?
Angon must just be finicky with certain of boosts/traits then, similar to the Haste/Slow relationship on crawlers vs. spiders.

Thanks for helping me catch that, I got a PM about it also~
My personal favorite use has always been for Dynamis-Tavnazia eyes. Throw it on before a WS, and it helps bring them down just a little faster. I'd be interested to know if it works for aspi... tossing a tomahawk before a barrage of nukes or something~ If I get a chance, I'll mess around on Uragnites... would make that weird fished up NM on the boat a bit easier if you can tomahawk and nuke it =p
As for Banish /w AF2 mitts, it would follow that potency only adds MAB. This also follows the wording on the merits, and how the word potency affects blm merits. I purposely removed AF2 mitts for my test, and since I found that the entire slashing resistance was removed, didn't bother with more =x.

So would it work against mobs like Khim or Cerb, or is that them just having high magical resistances?
Wait wait...chariots have physical damage reduction? I used tomahawk many times, but never noticed any differences. If they have one, I supose it would be something small (20% to 15%) or something.
Never had the chance to test it on wyrm, but I can't see its usefulness unless you're zerging one. Bringing a war in aoe range to increase magic damage by ~12% doesn't look like a good deal, when you could simply have a 5th blm or another drk instead.
For temperance, you don't want to fight it on blunt modes, and being able to hit for 15dmg (or nuke for 150dmg) isn't that great, especially when its 15-45sec/3minutes, and you could equip joyeuse instead.
I'm not saying tomahawk is awful, I actually use it in certain situation (fighting elemental), or any time I encounter a mobs with resist, but it's not that great either for endgame.
Well, looking at it as a War only (yes, one of them, I don't want too, nor will I be leveling other jobs) it's neat finding a new aspect of one of the many things in my bag of tricks.
The fact that it is specifically handy with stuff like Wyrms, and that some shells still like to SC+MB them, tossing in a Toma after I take part in an SC is just free damage for the Blm's, and all around faster kills.
That right there is unique and useful enough to have unlocked it after I read about it, and have a inventory slot taken up by Tomahawks.
You can easily take out the BRD or BLM in a Tia party so the WAR can Tomahawk and disband. For LSs like mine that do 20 min~ish Tia fights without any type of zerging involved, having something to increase nukes even further is a win-win situation.Originally Posted by Kaylia
Exactly!
So stop pooh-poohing on it, it gives War something useful to do as a DD besides "sit on that TP... get that link... ok, SC and disengage. Sit on that TP."
Naturally there are co-tanking considerations, but sometimes you just wanna go out and beat stuff up.
What setup and how many dd?Originally Posted by AkashiXI
Warriors who didnt unlocked tomahawk before probably never calculated the damage output of warrior's charge. There was no reason to not take it to level 2. However, i still dont think its significant enough to bother swapping people, risking to have someone disband with claim or anything like this, for a small boost in damage.
Anyone could calculate the amount of enmity on tomahawk? I'm almost certain there is a decent number of hate on it, because I turned a mobs using it a few times.
Tell me how and I'll go test it.
