Re: New Additions and Changes to Campaign (05/22/2008)

Yeah I actually think warrior might be the least bit restricted as far as endgame leg armor is concerned. As for the missions I too have been playing since beta and have not made it past rank 6. Sometimes it makes me sad then I go enjoy the storyline of the expansions and quickly forget.

Maybe it just depends on what jobs you have. BRD aside, I can take any of my 75 jobs out and go toe to toe with any number of mobs for XP, drops, and potentially, skillups. All consistent over a period of time, and generally "fair".

Or I can go to Campaign, hope I catch a good battle, and feel comfort from the fact that at least I didn't lose XP from cheap-NM-instakill #34.

Personally, I would much, much rather have had Campaign be all Ops in the form of Assaults that you can enter solo if you want. Random ??? items or regular drops, and no demotions.
One reason I don't even bother with Campaign at all right now is because of losing medals for not participating much. I only have a few, but hey, this way I'll only ever lose one if I go back. If I go and get demoted when getting a medal again, then have another gap in attendance, I lose another. So screw it. IMO, unless there's a worthwhile Rare/Ex reward to work towards that'll actually keep me coming back to grind out battles for points, I'll go get my slow solo XP somewhere else.

There's always a decent campaign battle going on somewhere. You can talk to your nation's intel NPC to see where one is going on, and averaging like 3k/hr with no effort or money spent whatsoever is better than soloing, imo. And it barely takes much effort to rank up, since there are plenty of ops you can do during a campaign battle or just in town.

also, POST IS NOT PREVIEW, fuck

Much better if it's a Campaign reward - that way you feel like you really earned it, rather than just lucked out and 'got the drop'. Also removes the chance you go 0/30 doing the same BCNM over and over and over again. That's just bad game design - tedious and repetitive is not fun (cf. Sky and Dynamis)

I guess this would mean no AN feet armor, but maybe they'd make that too and just give it similar stats, yet tiered downward.
That'd make Campaign worth doing for me. If the implemented body lacks Refresh though, I will continue not giving even the tiniest shit about Campaign.
They can't give SCH a Refresh body piece. It's in their super secret rulebook of "things we can't do".

If they added Ridilll for 3,000,000,000 Allied Notes, I'd still go after it because at least I'd have a chance and I'd always know I was making progress (Unlike linkshells which can fall to pieces at any minute). I don't care how much time it costs to get, just the fact that I'd feel I could get it if I put in the hours.

I wouldn't mind seeing everything in the game bought this way. WoW has a very good system whereby you can buy some of the best items in the game through PvP honor (Completely soloable). Points are a much fairer time sink/progression system than drop rates. Drop rates are not fun, SE.

It takes four battles a month to keep your rank, something like 8 to rank up. People who bitch about losing medals are people who honestly have so little time to play they shouldn't be playing or would rather stand around Whitegate and shoot the shit in LS chat. My god, SE made it so disgustingly easy to rank up and keep your medals that unless you ended up in a coma or went to boot camp, you can keep em.

Info now on where to head is better, granted. Frankly, I gave up on it prior to that, but still don't see a point in it for me personally.

Campaign might cost me nothing, but I can farm 40-60k/hr on top of getting XP. Maybe not 3k/hr, but if I'm desperate for merits I can always flag up on BRD >_>

Basically, for me, XP is not enough of a motivation to do Campaign. I had my fill of 3k/hr grinding taking BST to 75.
Good enough Rare/EX items might be enough to keep me going to it. Then it'd be working towards those items with a side benefit of XP.

I wouldn't mind seeing most everything be relegated to points from -something-. Whether it's CP, IS, AN, AP, or something new from Dynamis or whatever. I wouldn't want them to all come from the same place though.

Not what I'd heard from people I know who went to max rank, perhaps they adjusted it, or it's just if you're trying to rank up every time you possibly can it becomes harder. Still doesn't change that I have no reason, currently, to want to. Until such time as I do, I see no point in doing something just to maintain my standing in it. It's like XP draining away at 1k a day or something so that you need to go XP or delevel. Just stupid.

I completely agree. I don't care if it takes more time to earn, it's the fact that you don't have to deal with "luck" which terrible, flawed game design. Someone gets an item on their first kill, another person could be 0/100.

    I dunno about that.
If they drained away my xp but all it took was 15-20min worth of work 4 times a month that I could do by myself anytime with some kind of small benefits on the side I can't say I'd mind.
[Let's not forget that you actually get stuff for doing campaign(even if it's not much), not just keeping your rank]

Honestly, it's not bad at all imo.

I think you're onto something here!!11 In all seriousness, you should try other games or just play single player games if you want to actually feel accomplishment in exchange for time invested, instead of just pouring time in with hopes of possibly getting lucky.

    ^ Seiryu's sword?

I'd cream if they added legs with 5 Str from Campaign so I could once and for all write off War cuisses as a myth that will never taunt me by not dropping.

I'd be mad if they made the Iron Ram Haubert a Unicorn Harness/Fighter's Lorica +1 combo, since I have a Uni harness and Fighter's Lorica already, but it will be pretty as hell, so I'm getting it no matter what the stats are.

Why on God's green Earth would you waste a behemoth hide on a Unicorn Harness... it has no real function other than being ugly and giving you some HP.

Some people are just screwed out of that kind of stuff. Either the only LS that's taking new members in their timeframe is full of douchebags who suck at FFXI, or there just plain is no option (we don't need any [insert jobs you have leveled]).

Anyway, I think asking for an alternative method for obtaining a fairly sought-after and rare item that requires you to have a bunch of people vote you into their group in order for you to get it is a valid request. He wasn't asking for them to make the alternative method easy or fast. By the time you obtained it with the alternate method, you might've been able to get the damn drop. "Alternative" doesn't mean "easy". (See: Einherjar)

Re: New Additions and Changes to Campaign (05/22/2008)

The reason why decaying medals is a bad idea: it's a negatve incentive for doing campaign. That means, it makes you want to play campaign so that you don't lose your previous progress. It doesn't matter if you think it's easy enough to attain the quota or if you think it's hard, you should be wanting to do the event to win something, not to stop the system from losing what you already achieved.
The inclusion of decaying medals seems pointless to me unless you just want to grieve your player base even more with forced grind. As if the game didn't have enough. *shrug*

As for the update notes, all seem ok, nothing big yet, so here's hoping we don't get yet another meaningless update 6 months after the release of WotG. Also, i would like to see the healing cap increased as well as Raise being a spell that you'd WANT to cast (give more points for it, a bonus, whatever). The game should encourage teamwork , not penalize it like it seems to do in so many aspects of it.

I don't think you quite get it (not surprising since you don't seem like the sharpest tool in the box, exactly). I don't even have WAR leveled, I just think WARs deserve better than the status quo.

Getting into a decent Sky LS isn't really an issue for a good and well-respected player. The point is, there are more fun ways to spend the time we choose to play this game, than being forced to schlep through Sky because there are no better alternatives for the leg slot for that particular job.

SE creates a decent alternative item for that slot for WAR, that takes time and effort to get, in an event that is fun to do. It may take months, who cares? All those WAR are happy, SE is happy, everyone wins.

By the way, this post would have been more polite had you been less rude in yours. Might want to brush up on your manners, hmmm?

    1. Kill Aura Statues until a diorite drops. Trade it to pop U. Kill U for an Autumnstone.
    2. Kill Groundskeepers until Despot pops. Kill Despot for a Gem of the West.
    3. Trade both to pop Byakko. Kill Byakko.

I don't see how that's schlepping. The first two parts can be solo'd by a skilled BLM or easily managed by a party. The last part takes a mere alliance, maybe less with skill and experience. This is well within the realm of social linkshells, so why would anyone bother with a large "sky shell"? 2004 ended a few years ago.

There's no need to apologize for your tone. For your comma splices, sure, or for your whining about how hard the game is, but it's really hard to take offense at your self-assured and smug tone. Nice insult, by the way, about being the sharpest tool in the box. Did you come up with that yourself?

Back on topic, making sky-equivalent gear available from something as cheap as Campaign is, in a word, cheap. Allied Notes are cheap-- anything you can get a million of by spamming bar spells next to a CA in a BST area with no risk, no strategy, no effort, and no teamwork kinda has no value. WotG should have great gear (it's the era of relics, afterall), but it shouldn't be buyable with AN. There's got to be more to WotG than just Campaign.

Re: New Additions and Changes to Campaign (05/22/2008)

I'd be happy to see the decaying medals go, or at least a means to freeze them, in the event I'd need to cancel my subscription temporarily. Imagine others have similar concerns.

Otherwise, I've been pretty avid in Campaign and my total AN acquired are somewhere around 500k, though I've spent 80k on the 2 cobra pieces, and a lot on the obvious teleports so I'm around 400k. Getting such solely by buff botting would be a time consuming process, and generally speaking if you refresh tags every 15 minutes (something I hate doing, personally) then you'll keep similar AN gains doing it "the right way" (lawl).

If you dedicate yourself to Campaign, 20k a day feasible without doing Ops. 5-8k if you're more casual and only have like 2-3 hours to burn. Probably safe to assume the next rank will be 48k points, then 56k for the one after. With over 220k AN for a 5 piece set, I don't think it's too much to ask for them to be worth wearing. That'd be about 3 months of my own effort, and someone more casual would probably be looking at 6. I'd actually hope some would be situationally useful to level 70+ counterparts so people won't just decide to grind past them, either.

I know a Refresh body that's not Dalmatica, Ares, Morrigan's, Noble's, Plastron, YY Robe, Demon's Cloak, or Vermillion would be loved by many. Just the Refresh and Conserve MP would be lovely, as it'd still leave others (Aside from Vermy) with a niche use. Seeing more worthwhile leg pieces for all jobs would be hot, too. I know the hybrid jobs would kill for some gear that's not Corselet stupid, but some will just defend gear swaps to the death until we're on our 5th mog locker system due to R/E clogging.
