I've gone to the same guy since 1984 -- he has his own shop. Once upon a time they were $18, but I don't even know how much they cost anymore; last time I asked him he just said "Pay whatever you feel like." I give him $25/cut and call it good.
Well apparently its news to you...because it's pretty much considered standard to do it. Just because someone chooses to be ignorant of something doesn't really excuse them from looking like a cheap douchebag if they don't do it. My haircut is 13, I tip an even $5, go to the same and only chick who does my hair exactly the way I want it.Originally Posted by Cheerios
That's a huge tip and she's a bitch.
I tip $2 here as well, which is 20% of what I typically pay for a cut. It's the only thing I ever tip for also, as I can't be damned to afford anything else that typically warrants a tip.
It's a service. Any service should be tipped for. Bartenders, barbers, waiters especially.
Fuck bus boys.
Meh, consider me a cheap douchebag then. My barber sets his prices, if he wants more he can raise the price, maybe if he gave me a reach around or something I would tip. Restaurants I can understand, waitresses make like 2 bucks an hour.Originally Posted by Lockecole7

Independently owned barbers are different since they set their own prices based off of what they feel they'll profit off of. I go to a Hair Cuttery where these girls don't see any of the profits, and usually work off of tips/hourly wage. At least that's how I view it. Not to say you shouldn't tip a barber, but odds are he's upping his prices to make sure he's making a profit as it is.Originally Posted by Day

I see now, yeah, if I went to like Cost Cutters or somewhere then that would make more sense. Manly men don't go to those places where I'm from though.
Hi, I never got tipped at any job I worked at. But who fucking cares right? So I don't tip anybody unless they provided exceptional service.Originally Posted by Burginator
Also, haircuts run about 20 dollars around here for a guy. Yeah.
I just tip what I get back from change.

I usually leave 10$ tip for my haircut, which means I pay 60$ for a haircut, while you guys pay like 20 max. What the fuck.
Seriously, it's a waste of money to go to the chain haircut places. I found a barber who charges $8 & have been going to him for years now. Much better haircuts than the chains also.
I'd tip depending on how great the haircut looks. 3-6$ sounds about right.
I know quite a few girls that get their haircut at my 7.50 barber, and it looks just fine. Just walk into a barber shop one day, then no more 60 dollar haircuts =)Originally Posted by Lbelle
Chick's cuts are more elaborate with the layers, highlights, and the wachamacallit. Unless a guy ain't getting a perm liek any of the aforementioned stuff i.e. metrosexual crap, or going to an overpriced place, the cost isn't that high.
Edit: I tip my hairstylist cuz I know her for many years, she does a very good job, etc.
