    New video card help? :3

So currently I have a ATI Radeon x850 XT PE PCI-E x16 and am looking to upgrade to a newer card. Specs of the card are as follows:

    BIOS GPU: 520 MHZ
    BIOS MEM: 1080 MHZ
    Stream Processors: 16

Now looking at newer cards I see some gains of like 200 mhz in GPU, but the most jumps in memory. I guess my only question to you people who are more tech savvy than I am would be- Do you really see a big performance boost from 200 core gain and like 500 memory gain? If anyone could perhaps lead me in the direction of a newer, cost-efficient card, that would be great. Also, does this new PCI-E 2.0 work on any PCI-E mobo's?

As far as performance/cost goes, you can't go wrong with the Nvidia 8800GT right now.

I'd mostly been looking at that card...

    830 Core, 1920 Memory, 120 Stream Processors ... for $79.99 , sounds like a good deal..

Yeah, I mean you do get what you pay for. I don't have much experience with ATI cards recently, but they are solid when I've used them in the past. That one should be fine for you.

I was going to post same topic, so i'll just post here, dont mean to jack thread.

I am currently using Radeon 9550 (5 year old system) and looking to upgrade. Came across this card: http://tinyurl.com/443uon. Any one heard anything bad/good about it?

Not that specific manufacturer/model, but in general the 3850 is a pretty decent card. Easily more than your system can fully utilize, but you'd likely see a nice boost upgrading to that from the 9550.

oh god, don't buy the 2600XT! that card is terrible compared to an 8800 GT 512MB ($149 @ Newegg) or an 8800 GTS 512MB ($169 @ Newegg)

seriously it's not about how many stream processors the 2600 XT has or how fast it's core/memory is, it's about the architecture it's designed with and that card (as any benchmarks you find online will show) is a terrible gaming card

just my two cents of course.

Get a 1800/1900xt ATi 512MB. Probably the best thing I've done in years for an upgrade to FFXI performance. Especially after selling my gen 8 nvidia card.

I've been using the same card only a PCI-E version, and it's been great. I run most my games at high settings on 1680x1050

If you're going to spend $120 on that, I strongly suggest you pay the extra $30 and get the 8800GT, it's a much better card.

I have had that card over a year now and it has worked flawlessly. I'm thinking about getting a second one to run crossfire since they are so cheap now.

Using a X1950XT right now, love it to death. I will be upgrading to a 3870 when it dies.

My girlfriend has an x1950pro, it's been absolutely horrible, I've had to install third party drivers for anything remotely resembling stability, I wouldn't buy another.

either a bad card, or your not using omegadrivers. because I've had this card in my dell for a year now, with 0 lag and fps 29 always in ffxi.

edit: I noticed you said "pro". So I'm guessing we have different cards.

edit2: yeah I looked it up, thats the version with the shitty cooler on it.

There are going to be problems with any card. I'm sure some people think the 8800GT is the worst card ever because they've had problems with it. Most of the time as long as you do your research and have a bit of lucky with getting a non-doa card, you'll be fine.

Yeah your post makes no sense, I was talking about a card mentioned by somebody saying they might buy one, and as for your comment about omegadrivers, what the fuck are they if not the third party drivers I said I had to install?
