How I learned to stop worrying and love the ban:

So last night I finally got in touch with POL via phone - about 20 minutes before they close, after waiting about 20 minutes. I told them I'd been LM17'd, and they asked for my name and POL ID. They told me that I had indeed been LM17'd (gee, thanks), and that in order to divulge any further information they needed more information from me.

It was the standard stuff - POL Reg Code, first 4 and last 4 of the card on the account, and the address that they had on file. Oddly, in my case, this wasn't my most recent billing address. The address they had for me was the one which I used to originally register my account back in 2003 on the PS2. That's back when I lived in NYC (williamsburg, represent), so it took me a minute or two to remember the exact address.

After they verified that I was indeed the account owner, they told me that my LM17 was a 72 hour ban only for a "TOS Violation." I asked if they could tell me more about what they thought I'd done, and they said "in your case, no investigation has been done and none is planned, the GM you speak to when you log back in may or may not tell you more information. You were caught in the sweep, and there are 3 types of bans done during sweeps: people caught in RMT situations during the sweep are perma-banned, period, whether they get LM17 or LM11 message. People who violated TOS and are under further investigation. And people who violated TOS and are not under investigation."

Well, all that was news to me, no clue if all this is public knowledge already, as I generally skip over all the posts on bans.

So I plan to log in a bit later in the day, hopefully so I get a NA GM (so there are no communication issues), and using my 360 so there's no possible concern on the GM's part re: third party tools. I'm going to ask about what exactly got me banned so that it can be avoided in the future. I'm also going to ask about some concerns I've had since this whole thing started.

My initial thought when learning that LM17 meant ban was that my continual logging in from different IP's in different cities in a short amount of time was raising red flags. There's nothing I can do about that, because I travel often on business. The fact that the new TOS says they don't even have to tell you why you're being banned, is troublesome. I hope I get at least a little info out of the GM I talk to whenever I pop in gaol.

i was talking to this SGM about getting suspensions off my record because i did the account restore process and some twat got a bunch of stupid crap suspension on my account while they had it. then we started talking about banned names and what happends to them and this is what the GM said :

Pro tip: they DO not ban via credit card anymore.

I imagine they've received a lot of flac, and more than likely legal pressure for blanket banning via credit card -- which in turn forced them to 'adjust' their ToS ever so subtly. To my original point; I've been using the same CC# to pay for a character that used to pay for my original account that got banned in the first grat banning. And a friend got perma banned non-banday, and his credit card still pays for another character that is active to this day, not to mention that the 'active account' in question has had a number of credit cards associated with it that have other accounts currently active on it. (circa; june 23rd 2006)
