Rape is almost never sexually driven, it's about power. Needless to say, this is fucked up.

I've heard this from many people, including my psych 101 teacher, and when I ask for source of an actual study/statistic, no one can provide one, including my psych 101 teacher.

Do you have a study/statistic or personal experience in the matter?

Touchy-feelies are harder to quantify on a stat-sheet.

However, this is the reason that people who were sexually abused as young children are much more likely to abuse when they are older. Sexual abuse brings strong feelings of helplessness and lack of control that stick with people, sometimes for their lifetime. This makes people, when adults (or as older children) to seek out situations in which they feel that they are in control and powerful, which is what young innocent children provide for them. Some are monsterous and out-of-control about it (rape kid, brutalize body, murder, dump in ditch), some are misguidedly reasoned about it (build relationships based on trust with a touch of fear, convince self that you are helping them or showing them the right way) etc.

I've dated more women who have been raped as teenagers or molested as kids than I'd like to remember, and most of their abusers (from their recollections) fit into this mold. I'm sure that people on both sides of the equation post on these forums daily. It's sickeningly common, and almost overwhelming when I actually spend time thinking about it. It...actually makes me feel kind of helpless.
