My advice for anyone paying off to a debt collection agency. Get something in writing from them saying your debt is through, because I've heard stories of people paying crap and then having to repay it because the debt was sold even after it was payed (or partially payed).

Take it from someone who works in the credit field.

If you have a debt pay it in full however you can. Don't settle if you can possibly help it even if it might cost you a tad more and by all means do NOT file for bankruptcy unless your life depends on it.

If you care at all about yoru future you should take care of your credit and settling for things looks different on your credit report and affects your score differently than if you pay a debt in full. and if you pay it in full you'll at least have a small chance to get it removed from your credit report.

if you settle it's going to be on there for up to 7-10 years, if you bankrupt 10 years minimum.

You might not be in a position to care or not in a position to negotiate but you're better off doing their 108/month for 2 years or whatever til it's paid off or at least make sure there are no pre-payment penalties.

if you put it on your credit card not only will you end up getting fucked by paying, with what you portray your credit is like, 20-30% interest but you're also going to max your cards as you said which will hurt your credit even more.

Bottom line, never settle if you can afford to pay it off even over time and never file for bankruptcy unless your life depends on it. so many things in your life will be determined by your credit and the better you can take care of that the easier your life will be.

it's not the collection agencies fault that you didnt pay your debt off originally. they are just doing their job like whatever job you do.

yeah 6, that little fucker has screwed up a lot of people's lives in our state, judging by the stories i've seen on the net. he better stay the hell out in sauk rapids or w/e, cuz he doesn't want to run into me downtown on a saturday night...

anyway, i took the half-off deal and threw it on the credit cards tonight... with the move sunday, i couldn't handle the distraction. besides, i've got enough money and stuff coming for the next month at least that i'll be able to take a large chunk of it off quickly, then it'll be a matter of just paying it down.

i'm just thankful that i had the means to get him off my back... several years ago, he would've garnished my shit and i wouldn't have been able to do jack about it.

it's a new tactic apparently with these fucking debt-collectors, a law firm downtown took half of some 82 year old woman's social security check without her ever knowing the detb existed because they found this loophole in the state garnishment laws.


note to you all: if you have unpaid debts, DON'T live in minnesota =P garnishments can go through without you ever even knowing they exist, OR ever showing up on a court docket. fucked up laws they got here. ALSO, if anyone you don't know EVER comes to your door and asks for you - tell em that person doesn't live there, you don't know who the fuck they're talking about and then punch em in the face for good measure. srsly.
