Gamespot are refusing to review MGS4 until it's released.

Once again Gamespot manage to make themselves look stupid. The more recent mind-boggling publisher requests have come from Konami regarding Metal Gear Solid 4--requests that we believe cross the line. The first involved an event that we wanted no part of. The majority of the American press was flown to Japan for a so-called "boot camp," where journalists spent two and a half days playing Metal Gear Solid 4 under the watchful eyes of the development team, socialized and dined with them, and then provided focus group-type feedback on the final day. We flatly refused this request, because we believe that this puts journalists in an unethical and awkward position. In our eyes, it would be inappropriate for us to participate in the development process. And we think most reasonable people would agree.
As of this writing, we are unsure if we will have a Metal gear Solid 4 review published by the game's release date. We have not received review code, and the earliest Konami is willing to provide it is on the 9th, three days before release. It's unfortunate that publisher politics have reached this point, where refusing to meet these unreasonable demands means that we and our 17 readers are effectively punished. Please understand this much: We will bring you a review of Metal Gear Solid 4 when we've played the same code on the discs you buy, and played it in an appropriate, unbiased environment. We think you'll agree that this is the only real choice.
God gamespot is retarded... why not just fly over there, geez.
I was watching G4 a couple days ago and they had talked about EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) and about how they were delaying their review for the month of July (or June?) due to Konami butting in. Even small things such as hard-drive space required for the install and the length of cinematics was avoided, which I personally find odd. How that could possibly effect a game like Metal Gear Solid is beyond me, especially if your a hardcore fanboy of the series such as myself.
Of course, I don't think this has any relevance to the situation with GameSpot, so sorry for the derail.
As for GameSpot, lolgamespot. I've never really liked their reviews (I tend to stick with Game Informer) nor their views on certain aspects, such as this. I would have given my left testicle and half my shaft for a chance to play and critique MGS4 for two and a half days. To each his own I guess.
I do agree that asking reviewers to keep tight lipped about length of cutscenes and install space is unnecessary, especially given that screenshots of the game cover have shown the install to be at 4.6GB.
Kind of spoilers but not really, doesn't spoil any sort of story, but just incase I'll tag it.

I'm surprised nobody has stepped forward to debunk this rumor. There are no 90 minute cutscenes in MGS4. The ending is long, but 90 minutes is a gross exaggeration.
And here I thought gamers liked long endings!
Just a fair warning to people, some major spoilers are out, so might wanna be careful on what sites you visit from now on if you want a spoiler free experience.![]()
One week to go! I am avoiding all spoilers as tempting as they are, i've ruined the enjoyment of other games in the past by giving in but I will not be doing the same for this!
Here's Konami's response to all of the bullshit restrictions they put in place:

Sounds kinda like he's trying to clean up the mess, because aside from plot points, none of that other stuff should have been kept as taboo for reviewers to discuss. However, one thing that did catch my eye was:
"The game requires an eight minute install, as well as a number of two to three-minute installs between acts."
Why not do the full install at startup? I'd rather do one 20+ minute install, instead of having the game pause every so often (who knows how many acts there are and how long they are), instead of waiting 3 minutes while I'm in the middle of the action waiting on it to install some more.
Also, midnight release at GameStop confirmed, and here's a list of stores:

To answer part of your post (# of acts, putting it in spoiler so no one gets touchy about it)

Also, it's hilarious that reviewers can't talk about the product placement in the game. I'm wondering if product placement is localized for the various regions or if it will all be Japanese products.

Last final is wednesday, so this works out perfectly. I'm surprised my gamestop I pre ordered from is doing the midnight release. Never done a midnight release for games before. Is it important to get there pretty early usually? If so how early ect.
All this talk about too long of a conclusion/wrap-up cutscene going for too long is getting to me. I play through the MGS series a lot, and with MGS1 and MGS2 I hardly watch any of the cutscenes. However, with MGS3, I watch a lot of the cutscenes in the game--Especially the ending; probably the best game ending I've ever watched, the story is simple and there's not too big of a twist, but it really brings life to the characters--especially sets the precedent for the series tendency of patricide(matricide?)
Would ppl prefer a 45 second ending like Bioshock has?
