Worth Buying a PS3 For?


I haven't played any console games in a while, I lose interest lately, havent finished a bunch cause they start to get boring or dumb after a while (GTA4 Lost Odyssey FF12 Zelda). Plus my PS3 will probably collect dust after I finish the game a few times... So... to buy, or not to buy a ps3 and this game... God why did the government send me that check that I have nothing to do with....

If you didn't finish any of the games you say you've played then you've lost interest in console games in general. MGS4 isn't going to resurrect that.

I bought a PS3 with this game (80 GB bundle) but only because certain conditions were met:

1) I have a TV capable of HD output
2) It comes with a rumble controller (waited for this the longest)
3) Blu Ray won the format war.

If all these conditions had not been met I'd still be sitting on the fence. I wouldn't have bought it for MGS4 had even one been missing.

I liked the controls for MGS3 better, but the advantages from this are better once you get used to them. But one thing I do really hate is when Snake is facing towards my Camera and I want to aim, he points in the direction of the Camera instead of the way he actually is facing. This is different from the other Metal Gears. It sort of ruins my old strat of Tackle > pull out gun while they are still on the ground. Now they are getting up by the time my gun is drawn.

as far as if the PS3 is worth buying, I would say yes for the reasons stated above. However, if you don't feel like shelling out the money for it right away you could try renting one from Blockbuster (if they still do that). I remember renting a Xbox to play Skies of Arcadia when it came out. It was the only game I wanted ot play for Xbox so it was by far the cheapest route for me.

Hitting R3 resets the camera to the direction you're facing. Just give it a quick tap before aiming.

Just finished Act 2, and I have to say the game is absolutely amazing. I get so excited seeing characters from the past games return, and knowing I'm going towards the final resolution just gives me a feeling I can't explain. It's kinda like when I read the final Harry Potter book, I didn't want it to end, or see my favorite characters die, but I had to keep going.

If you're an MGS fan and still on the fence about buying a PS3...don't hesitate, just do it.

Oh hell yes, the inclusion of so many characters, in-game and via Cutscene, from the Series by Kojima and the way he's tying up all the loose ends is amazing.
I'll admit to having been a bit hesitant to a few things, and like others said it doesn't feel like a MGS game at first, but the game just sucks you in right off the bat and keeps delivering.

I got a PS3 just for the game and I have to say I don't regret it.

Other games and Blu-Ray is nice, and I'll admit that MGS fanboy-ism was a factor, but holy shit the game is so Epic in every way it has to be expereienced by every MGS fan.

As long as you don't start running when you get to close to them and get their attention it should be pretty easy. I'm also standing up instead of crouching when I hold up people...I dunno if it makes a difference or not but I find it easier to get to people before they turn that way.

So, I got my bundle at Sonystyle this morning (they had 20 bundles - 9 of us in line when it opened) - stopped by my apartment to quickly start the install before jetting to work at 11:30 a.m.. It's 12:28 a.m. (the next day) now and I'm still at work for right around 1 more hour - and I have to work at 9:30 a.m. again (for probably another 12+ hours).

I haven't even gotten to play the goddamn thing yet, and tonight I can get maybe 5 hours of sleep if I hurry...

On an unrelated note...I have a 27" CRT SDTV that I've had for like 9 years - been great, but yeah...need an upgrade. On Craigslist I found this post: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/ele/717582073.html - 32" Westinghouse LCD HDTV new in box for $450, and he's pretty close to me. I'm assuming they are stolen, but as long as the shit works it's about as good a deal as I'll be able to find. I talked to the dude today, but the only way I can get it before the weekend is if I swing by and pick it up during lunch tomorrow. Anyone have any advice, experience with Westinghouse TVs, etc? Reviews I've read say they are solid, and solid is good enough for me. I don't want to spend more than $600 all-told, so $450 with no tax and no shipping is appealing. Advice?

[spoiler:367qlcap]Agreed, the microwave part gave me goosebumps, I love the split screen idea. Also, last fight was fucking epic. I also like how they tied up the storyline, makes sense now. Fuck those reviewers who thought the storyline was a downpoint, also fuck the people who bitch about long cinematics.[/spoiler:367qlcap]
