    Excellent ending, so amazing.

Going through it again now and going for the No Alert run.

[spoiler:rmeyo3dz]So far so good, but the boss in Act IV is a pain since Haven Soldiers ALWAYS see me =( Crying Wolf fight is driving me insane.
Then after this and somehow getting past the rest of Shadow Moses with no alerts it is just Act V again! I missed the Mantis doll too on the first run, so once i get that i will have my shiny special gun for playthrough number 3, which will probably be no kill, or some of the 50+ kill ones. 50+ throat slits sounds fun =P

I think i will give it another shot tomorrow... too many restarts for one night.

Oh and speaking of bosses, has anyone waited until the "White Out" portion of the boss fights and equipped the camera? HILARIOUS. Even better, toss on your iPod and the Oiishi Chuhan track... priceless.[/spoiler:rmeyo3dz]

I waited for the whiteout thing... it's pretty cool, if you take out your camera they start posing for you lol.

This is one of the greatest gaming experiences I've ever had along with FF7 and Mario Bros. 3.

On the Ocelot thing since I don't feel like perpetuating a giant quote train...

Do we have a good estimate on how old he is at this juncture? Mid-sixties, early seventies? Obviously he appears in good shape, but muscles don't exactly reflect a healthy heart, lungs, or the status of other internal organs. Between FOXDIE and getting the shit kicked out of him, one could've made him more susceptible to the other before he finally kicked the bucket. Hell, I wouldn't even rule out psychological backlash playing a part with the whole persona layering thing.

Far as Big Boss goes, I'm kinda torn on his presence. Sure, he explained things, but they made it sound like he was organically fixed using the dead/damaged clones as parts, unlike cyborg Raiden who could probably get patched up with enough time at the Home Depot and a little creative knowhow. Since he wasn't released until JD went down, who actually performed the repairs? How long would something like that take to heal unless he went to like Vamp-level nanomachines?

Anyway, I probably started to lose it when Otacon was talking to Sunny at the end when she asked when Snake was coming back. Up until then, despite knowing about the Big Boss/Zero stuff, I just thought it was some exposition follow up from Otacon or something and Snake had already died. Though, not only did Kojima cockblock me from that thought, but then he goes and stops the suicide, too, basically telling us he'll live indefinitely even though he was on obvious last legs before the final encounters.

Feel bad for Otacon, though. First he lost Sniper Wolf as a friend of sorts in MGS1, then the whole back and forth with Naomi in this. And despite his promise to follow Snake around until the end, I feel like he deserves better than to just watch another friend die.

I've read the Matchlock has a 1 in 3 chance of blowing the enemy away and making them drop stuff, not tried it personally.

And the Powered suits that pop up when you make your escape in Act 2 are manned by PMC, you blow one up it counts as a kill fyi.

For the people discussing no-kill play throughs... Solar Gun, MK II, Mosin Nagrant, one of the shotguns with V Ring ammunition, and stun grenades can pretty safely cover all your needs throughout the game (and the rail gun or rocket launchers for gekkos and the Beasts, unless you're still trying to get a doll). The only thing that sucks is that Drebin doesn't sell Non lethal ammunition on the highest difficulty level, but in alot of instances you can use the Solar Gun to cover your ass.

And yes, the matchlock gun has a ~30% chance of creating a tornado where you fired (doesn't have to hit someone) and if any enemies are hit by it, they get tossed around and drop weapons/items.

I keep having to re-start since some bastard sniper always spots me in Act 1

I finished the game after I got home from work. Here are my impressions, not even going to bother marking for spoilers since the thread is already labeled with it.

My jaw dropped when I was fighting in Metal Gear Rex, kicking so much ass. Tearing apart Metal Gear Ray to bits was awesome, slamming it into building, using the Gatling Gun, Laser Canon, and AT missles. This makes me pray to god that Kojima is working on Zone of the Enders 3.

The fight with Vamp was the biggest let down of all time, I expected something of epic proportions but it was so easy and I really thought there was more to the guy.

Screaming Mantis fight was my favorite out of all the beasts, it was just so fucking epic. The music, the puzzle like feel, me shitting myself and turning on the 2nd controller, Psycho Mantis coming back to make your controller rumble. (lol @ chumps who used sixaxis)

I came when the Snake Eater theme played when Liquid got his face beat down all the way back to Ocelot.

    I shed a manly tear when he did the "you're pretty good" thing he would always do in MGS3. ; ;

The end.. omfg. Seeing Big Boss alive was incredible, I am really glad it happened. Though it seemed like just a bunch of old men talking, it tops any shitty JRPG story, action movie, or book that I have ever read in my lifetime. MGS4 is now honestly the best game I have ever played in my life. Knocking down Zone of the Enders 2 down from the throne.

^Another manly tear for that part.

Did you get a chance to watch the fight while you're dealing with all the Suicide Gekkos? It was ridiculously cool.

Don't think many people got to watch the fight fully due to having to blast Gekko down with the Rail Gun, but it might be on youtube.

Most of the really major parts of the fight occur when there's a slight lull in the Gekko's coming down. If you clear them out fast you usually have a few seconds to watch it.

I save at every opportunity, everytime i see a checkpoint i save. May as well lower your difficulty if you are only going for the No Alert run eh? I will up the difficulty for some of the other things, and honestly easy diff. isn't as feasible for some of the high kill, high alert emblems.

@Larsa, i agree with everything you posted... this game has/had so many epic points to it, and they all culminated quite perfectly at the end of you ask me. The whole thing was amazing.

[spoiler:2wm0unrb]Still using tags or not? I know some people may have gotten used to reading the posts before the titel was edited?

Was wondering if anyone has found any of the 'ghosts' that can be captured with the camera? I came across my first one 100% by accident. During my first play through i was running around taking pictures of the 'spirit wolves' because my daughter told me to (hehe). I was looking at my Photo Album later and saw a group of three ghosts in the upper left corner. I guess there are around 30 of them or so in Shadow Moses.[/spoiler:2wm0unrb]

Did anyone try moving the controller port to #2? (from the PSN button menu).. if you talk to Otacon he pretty much laughs at you for thinking the same tactic from the Psycho Mantis fight would work again, and that this time if it's not port 1 then you can't move your character. Then Snake goes "what the hell, whose dumb idea was that?"

Also, if you have vibration Psycho Mantis gets pissed that he can't read your memory card, but then when he moves your controller successfully he yells "vibration is back!"... if you used a sixaxis, i'm pretty sure he cries about not being able to do that either, and then disappears.

Definitely my favorite fight in the game after the Metal Gear battle.

Oh and I assume we're not using tags anymore, since the thread title has it marked now.

The Final Battle and the CS's leading up to it with the just 1 v 1 slug fest is far and away the coolest thing in the game. All the business has been taken care of and it was just time for one final rumble. Nothing to lose at this point, just redemption for Snake. When the "Metal Gear Saga" music started playing, I was covered in goosebumps. Then when they charge each other up with the Syringe and the MGS1 style life bars fill up, I was practically shouting "OMG YES". No weapons, no items, no support, just the way it should be. Then the phases and each man being beaten and broken by the end. Truly the most epic thing I've ever seen in a game.
