Okay here is a question that has been bothering me:

[spoiler:2qmxqeyj]Why doesn't Otacon ever suggest Snake to just discard his aging body and become a cyborg after everything is over? Seems like the only plausible scenario for him to survive more than six months.[/spoiler:2qmxqeyj]

Wow, for anyone who hasn't played the first three games and was heavily confused/intrigued at the end of MGS4, this is pretty clutch.

Man, I haven't played MGS4 (no ps3) but I did see all the cutscenes and codec calls, boss fights etc.
[spoiler:3i9p8lmm]One thing I'm wondering about... in the videos I watched, the guy just shot up the various beauties, is there any other way to handle them?

I mean, what's the point of giving them all that backstory if all they we gonna do is fight you for a few min, then walk at you and then die?

Also, when Snake Eater cut in during the Snake/Ocelot fist fight... that was just an epic moment.
They really did well with this one as far as the presentation is concerned... don't know about the gameplay because I haven't played it, but as long as it's on par with the other MGS games, it has to be the best game I know of.[/spoiler:3i9p8lmm]

CQC-wise, I like it better than 3. It bothered me a bit that there are so many weapons in the game, and so much ammo available. But it gives you more of the whole "you're in a war" aspect, so at least it works fine for the settings of the game,

The one thing that's nice about the system is that you can use as many of the weapons and the whole Drebin as much or as little as you want. Really though alot of the weapons are useless or pretty much exactly the same as alot of other ones. Once you've done a full playthrough and have access to all the weapons from the get go (especially the railgun, which makes Gekkos earlier in the game alot easier), you're usually sticking to the same 6-7 weapons

Now granted, if you're going for a no-kill playthrough on the Boss Extreme, the Drebin system is basically useless because he won't sell non lethal ammo on that level.

Besides the Javelin, are there any other weapons that make you go out of your path or else you completely miss them? I'm missing 2 more apparently, and they're not from emblems.

Really i just used the MG4 custom as my assault rifle; the 20 clip sniper rifle with silencer capability (omg game got 10x easier once i got that); and a rocket launcher. Barely touched any others.

    My set up was...

Railgun (durr, it's awesome and I've wanted it since MGS2)
That 50.cal Sniper Rifle (Hideo Kojima himself recommends it!)
    P90/Any high capacity machine gun
    Grenades or Grenade Launchers
Tranq Gun/Non-lethal weapon of some kind

Also, has anyone used the Matchlock? It's an old single shot rifle that takes Snake ageeees to reload (obviously, but it's funny as hell) but it has a slight chance to cause a fucking HUGE tornado that kills everyone sucks in and throws out ammo/weapons/items like rain. Pretty awesome.

The Sorrow Doll? I also know you said not from emblems but are you counting the Patriot SMG from the Big Boss emblem? Also, afaik one gun is supposed to be unlocked with a password being given out at a later date

I have the Sorrow Doll. And yeah, i'm missing two AFTER counting all the emblem ones.
I assume that gun they're going to add doesn't count towards the 69 weapons emblem though? (the one that will be unlocked later..) I know there are a couple of areas I never go into (like that facility in the 2nd zone of Act 2, I guess I can look around with stealth camo..)

And Elcura, I tried that gun out like 10 times lol, and it finally worked last night though in the area where the tank leads you in Act1 (just before where the B&B's first show up)... it was AMAAAAAAZING. I think like 200 items dropped, probably around 50 of them being Rations.

You're probably missing the XM8 and VSS,

They're both found in Act2, after you pass the power station (after cutscene with Drebin) head west most (there's two paths to the west; don't take the NW path, take the W path) and you'll run into a XM8 and Javelin on the ground.

The VSS is a silenced sniper rifle that can be found in the compound if u continue heading northwest from that point, there's a small base there, and the rifle can be found in the northwest part of the buildings there.

I assume you found the MK.23 (Socom MGS1 pistol)

    Everything else can be bought.

Yeah those names definitely don't sound familiar, I'll check it out at halftime.

Well I found the first one, but I'm looking for the 2nd one in that small camp you were talking about and I can't find it.
edit: nevermind, found it in a blind spot.

    Thanks a bunch.

lol I kept going after that area, and it brought me right to the gate of the mansion... completely skipped that annoying pond part, so awesome.

Yeah, yeah, reviewed MGS4 this week. Now stop reading if you haven't played it because I'm going to spoil some shit. It's the same colour as the background so highlight it or copy paste it into notepad and frame it on your wall or something.

So at the end of Metal Gear Solid 2 boy-fag usurper Raiden hooks up with his pregnant shrew bitch of a fiancee and goes off into the sunset, but in MGS4 it seems she had a little baby booboo and miscarried the whelp, whereupon the pasty twat of a father-to-be got all depressed and buggered off to travel the world becoming a cyborg ninja badass. He saves Snake from a few close encounters and generally acts like a broody psychotic. Meanwhile his ex has married old Colonel Campbell to hop up and down on dried out military dick. Anyway, Raiden shows up towards the end of the game to save Snake again and apparently gets crushed to death, poignantly thinking of the first time he met his wife.

At this point, I was almost impressed. I'm cynical enough to relish the schadenfreude when the happily ever after goes balls-up. Raiden suddenly seemed like much less of a universally hateful pussy. And Mrs. Raiden shacking up with the Colonel in response to Raiden's abandonment was good characterisation; it's the kind of thing you'd expect actual human beings to do.

    But then!

Otacon mentions in passing after Raiden's poignant death scene that, oh, guess he didn't die after all and he's had a few glasses of milk and is ready for more action. He shows up again at the end of the last mission with both his arms chopped off and with power over lightning for no adequately explained reason. He's become a hideous, cold, cyborgified demon. Fair enough, I thought, kind of makes that whole poignant death sequence moot but whatever. He gets stabbed up a whole bunch by enemy soldiers.

    But then!

At the very end of the game, in a tacked-on epilogue sequence, Raiden shows up in a hospital bed. Totally de-cyborgified with two nice healthy pink arms glued back on. And then his ex-wife shows up and tells him the full story. Apparently she and the Colonel were only PRETENDING to be married in order to defer suspicion from the Patriots! And she couldn't tell him this earlier because the PATRIOTS would have found out! Also her child was actually born healthy but she couldn't tell him that either because the kid had to be hidden from the PATRIOTS for some reason! Also his house didn't actually burn down and his dog didn't die, it was all the PATRIOTS! It was all because of the PATRIOTS and now everyone can be happy because the PATRIOTS are gone. PATRIOTS.

I'm not even going to explain why this shit pisses me off. If you don't agree that this is all complete fucking bullshit, just give Konami all your money. You don't fucking deserve it.

    Yahtzee

Maybe, maybe not. He doesn't finish all the games he plays, usually he says what he says to just get a rise out of people. It made me chuckle, but ultimately despite what anyones says I think the ending couldn't have been done any other way if there was to be a conclusion and no regrets. After so long (MG1>MGS4) everyone kinda deserved a happy ending after going through so much shit.

Yup, but he is right about Raiden. Nothing about it makes sense (although it is very badass...)

And it does seem like he beat it, since he's talking about the final Raiden scene in the hospital with his family.
