Love the graphics, though coming from Kojima I hardly expected anything less. I'm torn between being excited about seeing the whole thing wrap up, and being saddened to know I wont get to experience another of these games again.

Speculation time! As far as returning characters, i spotted in the official trailer:

[spoiler:1xzr4kx5]Solid Snake (duh), Otacon, Revolver (liquid) Ocelot, Meryl, Naomi Hunter, Vamp and Raiden. The woman in the red coat REALLY strikes me as The Boss. I know she is supposed to be dead, but MGS has always been a mindfuck, it's not out of the realm of possibility that she is somehow still alive.[/spoiler:1xzr4kx5]

The comment she makes on CQC makes for Hueg liek XBOX levels of The Boss Speculation, and I wouldn't put it past Kojima to work her in with some Patriot Related cloning as a parallel to the Genome Soldier program/Big Boss cloning/etc, but Kojima also likes to mind-fuck. hi2u all those MGS2 Trailers with Snake to hide Raiden.

Been waiting for the game for ages but never kept up with the info.

Can't believe I'm looking at purchasing a PS3 for this alone.

With the Laptop, the Desktop, the PStwo, the 360, and all the miscellaneous crap I've not got the room required for a PS3 in my shoebox room.
Probably going to need a Flatscreen Telly too, VGA box is spiffy but flicking back and forth from consoles and Desktop is a pain, not to mention all the console cabling swaps.

PS3s are region free right? Can import one or eBay a 60/80Gb model?

You can't play PS1 or PS2 games on a PS3 that aren't in the same region. So for example if you live in a PAL territory but want to play the Essential Collection, you'll need to get your hands on a NTSC PS3 or just get a chipped PS2 enabling you to play games of any region.

Does anyone work at Gamestop and can give me uh... "insider" information on the PS3 80 gig bundle. I really... really want one. All three gamestops near me haven't said anything about preorders but that contradicts what I've heard about it.

gamestops can not preorder it. period. they will never be able to.

only other retailers are doing some preorders and if they get tons, there is no chance they will have enough for all of them.

they are going to be very limited on initial release, the company keeps stressing this to us, so i really am not anticipating recieving more than 8 in my store, and i'm the #1 ps3 store in my district.
